At a Glance

Kick summer off with a splash! Raft, paddle and float your way down the waterways of Michigan to learn what makes the Great Lakes "great." Together, have fun boating on the cool lake and then learn from hands-on experiments about the water chemistry and how to keep these lakes and rivers so pristine. Take your classroom outside as expert limnologists and retired sailors share the unique technology they use to protect the waters and the different vehicles they use to navigate them. Land ho!

Be able to walk up to 2 miles on uneven ground. Easy paddling for 2-3 hours on slow moving river. Aboard small school ship for 3 hours.

Nicole Coats-Quales
Nicole Coats-Quales is a graduate of Michigan State University and Ferris State University. In addition to her role as the business development manager at Kettunen Center, she also is a part time educator in our Environmental and Outdoor Educational Programs, and is our resident lifeguard. She also finds time to be the booking agent for multiple music groups and lifeguards at the local YMCA, but she says that her favorite job is being the mom of the eight children in her blended family.
