Activity note: Hotel check-in from 3:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Orientation. 6:00 p.m. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. Unless otherwise noted, dinners on this program are typically a 3-course set menu and lunches on this program are typically a 2-course set menu. Breakfasts will offer a typical European-style breakfast buffet with breads, cheeses, cold cuts, yogurt, fruit, cereals, juice, milk, coffee, tea, and water. Please note that water is included in the program cost at all meals. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: We will enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Hiking the Southern Coast of Cap de Ses Salines

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach, driving 1.5 hours, 47 miles. Up to 6.8 miles of moderate hiking for approximately 4 hours.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We will travel by private motorcoach to the Cap de Ses Salines. We’ll set out on a hike from Cap de Ses Salines lighthouse to Port of Sant Jordi along the marvelous coastal route, taking in a field lecture about flora and fauna of the island, while keeping an eye out for the many native and migratory bird species.

Lunch: We will enjoy a picnic lunch while on the trail.

Afternoon: We will travel by private motorcoach back to the hotel, then enjoy some free time before dinner.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Sóller & Valldemossa

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach and train, driving under 1 hour and riding by train about 1 hour. Up to 5.5 miles of moderate hiking for approximately 4 hours. Ascending 1200 feet and descending 550 feet over the course of the hike.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We will travel by public transportation to Plaça d'Espanya in Palma de Mallorca and take the historical train to Sóller. We will stroll through the picturesque town of Sóller with our Group Leader. Once in Sóller, we’ll begin our hike, which weaves through ancient and gnarly olive trees and cultivated landscapes. Shortly before the picturesque village of Deiá, a motorcoach will take us through the beautiful countryside to Valldemossa. From a local expert, we’ll hear field lecture about UNESCO World Heritage Site Serra de Tramuntana and learn about the Carthusian monastery Sa Cartuja, as well as the work and life of Chopin and George Sands in Mallorca.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: We will then visit the former Carthusian monastery Sa Cartuja, where the Polish composer Frederick Chopin and the French writer George Sands lived in 1838. Afterwards, there is time for a stroll through the village with the flower-decorated alleyways. We’ll return by private motorcoach to the hotel.

Dinner: At a local restaurant.

Hiking in Alcúdia

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach, driving about 1 hour, 40 miles. Up to 4.5 miles of moderate hiking for approximately 3.5 hours. Ascending 1500 feet and descending 1000 feet over the course of the hike.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We will transfer by private motorcoach to Alcúdia, a small town in the northeastern part of the island. On the peninsula of Alcúdia, we will enjoy an impressive hike with an unforgettable view of the turquoise-blue sea and wide bays. At times, the hike will take us on narrow and rocky paths and sometimes on cozy nature trails.

Lunch: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.

Afternoon: We will continue the hike to Talia. Along the way, we will learn about the history of Pollenca and Alcúdia, which was the capital of the island during the Roman occupation. Afterwards, we will travel by private motorcoach back to the hotel.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Fascinating Palma de Mallorca, Free Time

Activity note: Getting on/off public transportation, about 1 hour one way, 7 miles. Approximately 2 hours of city walking.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We will travel by public transportation to Palma de Mallorca and enjoy a walk through the city with a local expert to learn about the history and culture of the city. We will explore the magnificent Catalonian Gothic cathedral that is the landmark of the city, the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma. Next, we will visit the interesting and historical old town and the Arab Bath. These 10th-century baths are virtually all that remain of the former Arab city here known as of Medina Mayurqa. We will stroll through the narrow streets and catch glances into hidden courtyards.

Lunch: At a local restaurant in Palma de Mallorca.

Afternoon: Free time. Take this opportunity for personal independent exploration to see and do what interests you most. Please refer to the list of Free Time Opportunities. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.

Dinner: Explore local fare on your own either in Palma de Mallorca or Illetas.

Evening: At leisure.

Panoramic Mountain Hiking Trail on the West Coast

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach, driving 20 minutes, 13 miles one way. Up to 5.5 miles of moderate hiking for approximately 4 hours. Ascending 500 feet and descending 1700 feet over the course of the hike.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We will drive by private motorcoach through a blossoming fruit and garden landscape to the small westerly town of Andratx. We’ll embark on a varied hiking route, enjoying fantastic views of the rocky northern coast and the uninhabited island of Sa Dragonera, which is a natural reserve. We’ll take in a field lecture about the geology of Mallorca and the local flora and fauna.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Our hike will continue. We’ll descend on a natural road to the picturesque bay of Sant-Elm, where we can recover and rest from the hike. Maybe you want to have a refreshing swim in the sea. Afterwards, we will travel by private motorcoach to the Castell Bellver high above Palma de Mallorca. We’ll explore the fortress with its breathtaking views over the Balearic capital, before returning by private motorcoach to the hotel.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Hiking to the Castle Ruins of Castillo de Alaro

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach, driving 1/2 hour, 22 miles one way. Up to 6 miles of moderate hiking for approximately 4 hours. Ascending 1050 feet and descending 1150 feet over the course of the hike.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We’ll travel by private motorcoach to Alaró, where we will enjoy a wonderful hike through beautiful olive groves, fragrant pines, and dense rocky forests to the top of the 2690-foot Puig Alaró. The ruins of the Castell d’Alaró are situated on a gigantic rock. On a clear day, we can enjoy the breathtaking views over the southeastern plain of Mallorca to the Bay of Palma.

Lunch: Picnic lunch.

Afternoon: We’ll continue the hike, taking in a field lecture about agriculture in Mallorca. Afterwards, we will return to the hotel.

Dinner: We will enjoy a farewell dinner at the hotel. One glass of wine included.
