Destinations during our walk will include the Marienplatz, Frauenkirche, Hofbräuhaus and St. Peter’s Church.
At a local restaurant on Viktualienmarkt, we’ll enjoy a 2-course plated meal with water provided; other beverages available for purchase.
We will set out on a walk with our Group Leader through the city center to visit the Munich Residenz, the largest inner city palace in Germany and one of the most visited sights in Munich. Between 1508 and 1918 it was the home and work place of the Bavarian monarchs (Wittelsbacher). The first part was built in 1385 but in the following centuries the palace was continuously expanded, therefore explaining why elements of Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Classicism can all be detected in the one building. After the revolution of 1918, the Residenz was turned into a museum for the public and it still remains one of the most visited museums of Germany. We’ll explore the building equipped with audio guides. Afterwards, enjoy the rest of the afternoon on your own to see and do what you wish.
This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.
