Colorado Scenic Byways Road Atlas & Travel Guide
by Jim Steinberg, Susan Tweit
This book is a guide to the open road, to the opportunities that beckon just around the bend, over the next hill, beyond the far horizon. But not just any open road: this Road Atlas & Travel Guide details the sights and stories of Colorado's 25 scenic and historic Byways, reveals the heart and soul of each route in spectacular photography and insightful essays. These diverse byways shows off the state's extraordinary variety in landscapes and history, from ruler-straight roads traversing the wide-open expanses of the far eastern plains where bison once flowed in herds like dark rivers, to winding routes through rumpled foothills dissected by river canyons and dotted with aspen groves and historic lodges; from bumpy jeep tracks to ascending nose-bleed heights over alpine ridges splashed with summer wildflowers and acid-bright mine tailings; from the surprise of two lanes traversing mountain parks to gravel roads winding between massive walls of red sandstone that hide centuries-old cliff dwellings in the canyon country of the far western edge of the state. This rich network of scenic and Historic Byways shows off Colorado's captivating spaces and lives, both wild and human. Colorado Scenic Byways Road Atlas & Travel Guide is for travelers who prefer winding roads to straight, choose to explore a new route rather than get there fast, are curious enough to stop and read a roadside sign, and marvel at a waterfall, wildflowers or a flock of sandhill cranes high overhead. It is for those who think they know Colorado, as well as those who are new to the state's enchantments. Open these pages, pick a byway at random, and set off on a journey.
Centennial
by James A. Michener
Written to commemorate the Bicentennial in 1976, James A. Michener’s magnificent saga of Colorado is an enthralling celebration of the frontier. Brimming with the glory of America’s past, the story of Colorado—the Centennial State—is manifested through its people: Lame Beaver, the Arapaho chieftain and warrior, and his Comanche and Pawnee enemies; Levi Zendt, fleeing with his child bride from the Amish country; the cowboy, Jim Lloyd, who falls in love with a wealthy and cultured Englishwoman, Charlotte Seccombe. In Centennial, trappers, traders, homesteaders, gold seekers, ranchers, and hunters are brought together in the dramatic conflicts that shape the destiny of Colorado and the West.
Messages in Stone: Colorado's Colorful Geology
by Vince Mathews and the Colorado Geological Survey
Introduction to the rocks, structures and geologic history of Colorado. Includes discussion of landforms and geologic hazards. Lavishly illustrated with photographs of Colorado sites and maps. Appropriate for geologists and non-geologists.
The Ute Indians of Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico
by Virginia Simmons
Using government documents, archives, and local histories, Simmons has painstakingly separated the often repeated and often incorrect hearsay from more accurate accounts of the Ute Indians.

Visiting the Majestic Parks and Monuments in Colorado was spectacular in many ways- of course, the scenery is breathtaking and the group leaders were superb in every way! I had the opportunity to learn so much about Colorado and its indigenous people as well as meet travelers from all over the United States. It was a truly memorable experience!

Colorado, The Magnificent Seven more than lives up to its billing. We saw many new and fantastic places and learned more about Native American culture and the Ute nation.

This was a phenomenal tour of Colorada, encompassing not only the 7 National Parks and Monuments included, but much of the state as we made our way around this well-planned tour! So much history and information were included! The guide and driver were exceptional, as were all of our fellow travelers. We enjoyed this trip immensely and made many new friends for life! Was a pure delight!

This road trip in Colorado takes you to 7 parks and they are all amazing, yet different from each other. The trip is very well organized by Joan and Lee and both are quite knowledgable about Colorado and it's history. The bus rides are long most days and the scenery is splendid. Lee was an amazing bus driver, warm and friendly and a very safe driver, but beware that most of the parks have windy roads and many hairpin turns, which didn't bother me. You will learn a lot about Colorado today, it's culture and history.

Every day was filled with spectacular scenery and each day was a different environment - from the sand dunes, to high desert and sweeping mesas, awe-inspiring canyons and alpine forests. Be prepared to take lots of pictures!!

As the home of spectacular national parks and monuments, Colorado is the place to visit. Our group of former strangers coalesced into a family as we traveled awestruck by the geology, history, and beauty that we were seeing with the aid of excellent guides.

The Mighty Seven trip was a great way to experience the beauty of Colorado without the hassle of an on-your-own car trip! The fall colors were breathtaking.

This is the best way to see all the great parks and monuments in Western Colorado. Joan and Lee are very informative guides, along with the rangers at a couple parks that joined us to add their information. There are some times when the bus ride seems long, but to cover this much territory you need to have a few longer days. The scenery is fantastic, and our tour was at the peak of fall color. Very happy to have participated in this trip.

This trip included all the wester Colorado National Parks and Monuments. Joan and Lee were great, the scenery was beautiful and it was the optimal time for color change on the aspen and cottonwood trees. We even were on top of a rainbow!

Before this trip, I had never heard of some of the National Parks and Monuments that we visited, but I am so happy that I had the opportunity to see and learn about these magnificent places. Each place is different and equally amazing, and this trip is a wonderful overview of National Parks and Monuments in the State of Colorado.

The Mighty Seven of Colorado is magnificent. The diversity and beauty of these monuments and parks are breathtaking. The program is well paced and our group enjoyed the adventure!

(5) Review left 7/02/2019

The program was described as the Mighty Seven National Parks and Monuments, but we actually saw several other wonderful areas: the Garden of the Gods outside Colorado Springs, the Ute Museum, the Silverton Historic train, the True Grit Restaurant in Ridgway, the fruit orchards in Delta, the Polish feast/luncheon at Alexander Lake Lodge near Grand Mesa, St. Kathryn Cellars in Palisades, Art on the Corner and Engstrom's ice cream factory in Grand Junction and wood carvings in Craig City Park. We were truly on-the-go for this trip, and I enjoyed every minute!!

This was a wonderful new tour with a great itinerary and group leaders. I can recommend it to anyone interested in the National Parks and Monuments of the Colorado. I am confident it will prove to be very popular so if someone is interested in the tour they should book it well ahead.
