1
Arrive, Check-in, Orientation, Welcome Dinner

Afternoon: Welcome and Orientation. Tour Adirondack Mountain Club’s Adirondak Loj and the Heart Lake Program Center property, and get an overview of the week's activities.

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m. in Adirondack Mountain Club’s Adirondak Loj.

Evening: 8:00pm Presentation on the History of the Adirondack Park

Hike the Jay Range

Breakfast: Breakfast served from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: 8:30am Transport to the Jay Range trailhead by van. Hike to and along the spectacular ridge of the Jay Range beginning in mixed forests and ending at a magnificent overlook of the surrounding region including the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, Vermont's Green Mountains and Lake Champlain.

Lunch: Pack-out bag lunch along our route.

Afternoon: Return via the same route to the trailhead and transport by van to Adirondak Loj.

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m. at Adirondak Loj

Evening: 8:00pm Presentation on "The Alpine Zone: New York’s Rarest Ecosystem"

Paddling Middle & Lower Saranac Lake

Breakfast: Breakfast served from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: 8:30am Today, we'll canoe through a portion of the Saranac Lake river system, which is part of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail - a resurrected 740-mile ancient route running from Old Forge, NY to Port Kent, Maine. Today's itinerary offers a variety of water bodies - creeks, rivers, ponds and lakes. We'll begin at South Creek, and paddle through Middle Saranac Lake and Weller Pond. The pace will be moderate with about 6-7 hours on the water, including breaks and lunch.

Lunch: As we pass back through Middle Saranac Lake, we'll stop for a pack-out bag lunch at a beautiful natural beach accessible only by boat or on foot.

Afternoon: Continuing on, we'll pass through a section of river and an old set of hand-operated locks, which then leads us to island studded Lower Saranac Lake. Today's distance will amount to about 10 miles.

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m. at Adirondak Loj.

Evening: 8:00pm Presentation on "The Northern Forest Canoe Trail"

Hike and Mountain Bike Mt. Van Hoevenberg

Breakfast: Breakfast served from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: 8:30am Begin hike to Mt. Van Hoevenberg. This hike is flat as it passes through a large coniferous plantation and into a mature hardwood forest, at the end of which is a large beaver meadow. Climbing begins up a long, gradual ridgeline and ascends to a rocky overlook with expansive views of the surrounding mountains and forests. Descend over the north side of the mountain to view the bobsled run at the Olympic Sports Complex and arrive at the High Peaks Mountain Bike Center.

Lunch: Pack-out bag lunch along our route.

Afternoon: After seeing the sliding track up close, we'll walk to High Peaks Mountain Bike Center and spend the afternoon mountain biking.

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m.

Evening: 8:00pm Presentation on "Adirondack Flora & Fauna"

Paddle St. Regis Canoe Area then Hike at the VIC

Breakfast: Breakfast served from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: 8:30am Depart by van for our visit to the St. Regis Canoe Area, the only designated canoe area in New York State. Managed as a wilderness with a focus on non-motorized water recreation and the protection of water quality and fisheries resources, these 18,000-acres and 58 clear, spring fed ponds are noted for their tranquil beauty and wild character. We'll put-in at Hoel Pond and begin our 4 mile paddle. We'll pond-hop through Turtle, Slang, and Long Ponds, all interconnected by short carries and meandering streams.

Lunch: Pack-out bag lunch along route.

Afternoon: At Long Pond, we’ll swap paddling shoes for hiking boots and ascend 1,000’ over 1.75 miles as we hike to the summit of Long Pond Mountain which overlooks the canoe area and beyond. We’ll return via the same route. Our pace throughout the day will be moderate with plenty of time for stops and picture taking. On the way home, we'll stop at Donnelly's for some delicious homemade ice cream.

Visit John Brown's Farm, Tour Olympic Ski Jumping Complex

Breakfast: Breakfast served from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: Explore the historic gravesite and farm of famed abolitionist John Brown. Using the trails at John Brown’s Farm, we’ll access the Mackenzie-Intervale Olympic Ski Jumping Complex and tour the facility. Following an elevator ride to the observation deck of the 26-story tall, 120 meter ski jump we’ll take in outstanding views of the mountainous landscape surrounding the Village of Lake Placid as well as what athletes see from the start pad as they prepare to jump

Lunch: A sit-down luncheon is included at the Adirondack Loj. Program ends after lunch.
