At a Glance

Charged with the task of finding a water route across North America, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark set out on their historic expedition in 1804. On land by private motorcoach and on the river by 221-passenger riverboat, the American Empress, voyage from Montana through Idaho to Washington and Oregon, learning about important expedition sites. Enriching lectures with a Road Scholar study leader provide an in-depth perspective of this monumental expedition.

After a 25-year career as a CPA and teacher with emphasis on financial crime prevention in the U.S. and overseas, Jimmy shifted some of her professional energies to working at historic sites. She worked as a seasonal ranger on the Lewis and Clark Trail beginning in 1999. That led to speaking engagements and active volunteerism through the intervening years on that historic trail and others.

Norman retired after 40 years in the classroom teaching everything from 7th-grade remedial reading to Advanced Placement European history. Inspired to enhance his U.S. history classes, he joined the Lewis and Clark Honor Guard, an organization of living historians dedicated to retelling the expedition’s story. Years later, he remains involved in reenacting, researching arcane knowledge, and providing instruction on Road Scholar programs. When not involved with Lewis and Clark, he is an avid reader, photographer, hiker and explorer of photogenic locations.

Bob was introduced to travel at age two, riding in a TWA Super Constellation cockpit from Kansas City to Amarillo. Travel has been his vocation for over forty years, and he has visited all fifty states, six continents and over fifty countries. Bob enjoys leisurely walks along both mountain trails and urban cityscapes. Highlights on his programs include discussions of geology, climate transitions and human histories. You can always find him with a camera, photographing wildflowers and the epic landscapes of the Pacific Wonderland.
