The best of Cuba may arguably be one of the best "Group tours" I have been on. As a traveler who preps for every trip, I feel that I learned a lot, clarified misconceptions I had formed. I am not aware of the educational philosophy of Road Scholar on other tours. This people to people format seems to me the best way to go to know a country and its people.

This is an excellent program enhanced by the encounters we had with the people of Cuba. While I normally shy away from bus type tours, the amount of bus travel was quite manageable and allowed us to visit a variety of locations. I highly recommend it.

This trip to Cuba was great. The leader Marialina ranks at the top of all of our 16 Road Scholar trips. Her English skills to superb, she was extremely professional able to be warm and friendly but firm when needed, and her knowledge of Cuba was encyclopedic.

My husband and I just returned from a 10-day tour exploring the Best of Cuba:People Life and Culture:Camarguey to Havana. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to visit this beautiful island and learn more about its talented, resourceful and friendly people. I can best describe this experience as life-changing.

If you want to be exposed to people who are "resolvers" -- don't moan and groan about life's challenges, just find resolutions -- then this is the program for you. Understanding Cuba by being there is so relevant in today's politics and makes you wonder about policies of the last 50 years. We could learn from their educational and health care focus.

10 Days in Cuba that Changed my View of the World: The trip to Cuba was a revelation in terms of seeing a vibrant culture that was struggling with the conflict between the socialist system and a free enterprise model. The people were warm and welcoming and the culture was exciting.

I have traveled with other tour groups, and I was delighted to say that Road Scholar provided the best opportunities to enjoy the country I chose to explore. The amount of structured time and free time was a good balance. The quality of all experiences and facilities was outstanding. I highly recommend that you visit Cuba with Road Scholar and explore trips to other countries with them!

After cautioning participants to be flexible, Road Scholar staff do a good job of providing clean and comfortable accommodations, air-conditioned buses, satisfying food, and a variety of experiences to learn about today's Cuba. Karen

Best educational trip that I have ever taken, presented by guides who were knowledgable and passionate about Cuba. I learned more in 12 days than I knew in 70 years. Highly recommend this trip!

This was a great experience that showed much of the island and the culture in the urban and some rural areas. We were pleased to see the strength of education and training in the arts (music, dance, sculpture, painting, parades, etc.) that is supported and shared by the public.

Just returned from my first trip with Roads Scholar. This was a 2 week trip to Cuba. In those two weeks we traveled to many different parts of the country learning about the people and their culture along the way. The accommodations were all very good, clean and comfortable. The bus we traveled in was very clean and comfortable. The Cubans are very excited to see that the Americans from the US are traveling to their country again. You do have to go into this knowing that Cuba is still in the category of a third world country. If poverty bothers you, this may not be your best choice. But if you are ready to go into the trip with your eyes wide open to anything you will not be disappointed. A beautiful country with beautiful people. Never was afraid to be out walking without our group or guides. A place everyone should put on their bucket list. D it soon before it all changes.

I went on this trip because some friends said they were going and would I like to come, too. I said yes and thoroughly enjoyed myself, being with my friends and learning all about Cuba. The trip could not have been better. It was worth every minute and every dollar spent.

The People to People Program in Cuba is a wonderful experience which resulted in broadening my perspectives about our close neighbor as well as bout my own country (USA). The people, music, food, openness and enthusiasm of Cuba are incredible!

A fascinating program with a strong people-to-people connection! You will meet many artisans, dancers, painters and musicians as you visit both the rural parts of Cuba and the urban cities, and see Cuba with your own eyes. You will also gain an appreciation for the culture and history of the island. I highly recommend this program (and the food is fantastic!)

A trip of a lifetime, so rewarding to step back in time and see a beautiful country up close and personal. Seeing Cuba first hand helped explain some of the problems the country has experienced through history. A definite trip to put on your Bucket List.

My wife and I recently completed a 10-day "people-to-people" experience led by Alex and Elias in Cuba. It was a thoroughly wonderful and insightful trip. We began in rural, eastern Cuba and throughout the trip headed west and into a more modern Cuba. Each of our interactions, demonstrations or performances were superb. We highly recommended this experience.

I would encourage everyone to visit Cuba with Road Scholar. This was an excellent tour and provided excellent information, exposure, and and hands-on experiences with the Cuban people. The Cuban people are so encouraging to me as they are extremely happy and have the ability to separate politics and people. They were so positive towards the US. I am so hopeful that in the coming years their borders will be open and they can keep their unique perspective about life.

We were so glad that we decided on the 11-day program... it gave an in-depth people-to-people experiences that we would not have experienced if we had decided on a cruise.I would highly recommend this program. Road scholar's trip coordinators/group leaders were very capable/knowledgeable of topics...Food was excellent but could have improved by serving reduced portions to avoid waste....

This superbly-organized and beautifully-executed program will open up Cuba's reality to you, by actively promoting an intense person-to-person experience and a wide range of cultural and intellectual experiences. A wonderful introduction to the country, led by intelligent, involved and extremely enjoyable personnel - this was my first tour ever, and it couldn't have been better!
Marlene

This was a well organized diversified opportunity to experience a country that is relatively unknown to most of us - its history, culture, its successes, failures and hopes. Knowledgeable, committed staff educated us and seamlessly arranged for our compatible and interesting group to have direct contact with people engaged in varied aspects of Cuban life.
David

Our trip to Cuba was one I would strongly recommend to anyone thinking about such a trip. Road Scholar is very organized and helpful each step along the way. A great way to travel.

This trip exceeded my expectations. Cuba is so much more than vintage cars, cigars, baseball and rum! They are all wonderful, of course, but through Road Scholar you will enjoy the mosaic that is Cuba; it is a study in contrast---complex and complicated yet extremely friendly, safe, and vibrant. Art, music, dance, and food are an adventure. Be flexible and enjoy the ride!

Road Scholar's program in Cuba is second to none. We had access to many unique educational and fun experiences that would not have been available to those travelling on their own. At times, we love travelling on adventures by ourselves but I would highly recommend booking (at least) your first trip to Cuba with Road Scholar to experience an insider's view of Cuba, it's people and it's culture. Truly an unforgettable experience!

Road Scholar has put together an EXCELLENT program for those who want to meet and learn about our Cuban neighbors. This program introduces the participant to Cuban music, art, and dance as well as meeting the people in their homes and at their jobs. Visiting with the Cuban people was a real delight. I am inspired to learn more and return someday.

The trip to Cuba was fantastic, a chance to see the country and meet some of the people, many face to face, before any dramatic changes take place as the country is opened more and more to the United States. As usual fellow Road Scholar participants were terrific, always a friendly and very inquisitive group of fellow travelers.

Very well organized, food was plentiful and very good.... some of it was almost "art like", eating places were like high end restaurants. Very well organized field trips and presentations..... music everywhere. Leaders kept track of us, so we didn't get lost, were concerned about our well being.

Look no further! Road Scholar cannot possibly be beat with its organizational skills, contact, follow up, programs, guides, speakers, variety, and your individual safety.

If,A COMFORTABLE HOTEL MATTRESS AND A HOT SHOWER ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO YOU, AND LACK THEREOF WILL NMAKE YOU MISERABLE, THIS IS NOT THE TRIP FOR YOU. However, If YOU HAVE AN OPEN MIND AND WANT TO LISTEN TO PEOPLE AND EXPLORE A DIFFERENT CULTURE AND LIFESTYLE, THEN THIS TRIP IS A WINNER.

If you're a single and enjoy travel and meeting welcoming and friendly people, don't hesitate to join a Road Scholar trip. They make it so easy to travel alone, because you're never really alone. Most fellow travelers are warm, open, and interested in meeting new people, you included.

Our experience on this first RS trip exceeded our expectations. RS group leader, Cuban tour leader, and the various local guides were all tops. A chance to gain broad understanding of Cuba; see the reason that completely dropping the embargo would be so meaningful to Cuban people; and chances to interact with the people are all reasons to take this trip. All of our group is concerned about the effects of mass influx of tourists may have on Cuba, which is stressed in terms of resources - both water, housing and maybe food - though that was harder to determine as meals provided were tasty and beyond plentiful. Seeing the juxtaposition of beautifully restored 16th cent and colonial buildings with ones falling completely apart gives one pause. Music, dance, good food, and very, very welcoming people are all reasons to head for Cuba soon!

Amazing is the first word that comes to mind re my recent 10 days in Cuba. My lifelong dream to make this visit was perfect in every way and really enhanced by the Roads Scholar tour lead and our local Cuban guide. They were a great team, effortlessly keeping us on track. Each day was an adventure! And my travel companions were delightful!

This was an exciting and very meaningful trip. Interacting with the Cuban people was such a delight and helped me better understand the history of Cuba, it's strong and welcoming people and some of their dreams for the future. My life has sincerely been touched by the wonderful experience and the warmth of the Cuban people. I hope to return as a tourist to help celebrate more opportunities for the Cuban people once the embargo is lifted and they have more opportunities for their future.

I highly recommend this program as an introduction to Cuba. Our daily People-to-People connections were a highlight for me. Since returning to the US, our will contribute to funding travel for the Cienfuegos choral group to attend an international festival in Missoula this summer. And I'm working on supporting his first trip to the US for our OnCuba speaker. Building small bridges one plank at a time.

I loved our "people to people" program in Cuba. We had a fantastic Cuban guide, and met many interesting and informative people as part of the program. The music, dance and art is world class, and we were able to meet and talk with some of those artists.

"The Best of Cuba: People, Life and Culture" program certainly lives up to it's name. Starting in Camaguey and ending in Havana was the best way to get to know the country & the people in my estimation. Great adventure.

This program is really good to get a quick look at Cuba. A good variety of experiences made this program more enjoyable that others. We got to see a change in geological surfaces, a peep at different housing styles and how the influence of the Soviet Union is still being felt in Cuba.

Overall the program was excellent, but it is very much subject to change. We picked the 11-day because it included a baseball game...but that activity did not happen. Also, as long as US relies on charter flights by law, be prepared for disorganization at the airport when you leave Cuba. Our flight finally boarded six hours late after much uncertainty. My sister-in-law, traveling on her own in November, left 16 hours late. Don't book US connecting flights home for the same day.

This trip to Cuba was wonderful, so enlightening. The People to People exchanges were very enjoyable, with so many interesting things to experience. The food was great too and our guide had so much to share. Definitely recommend this trip, especially before the cruise ships arrive and the airports are jammed. Fabulous experience.

The program was a true adventure. It provided me with new insight of the Cuban people and enabled me to understand the culture and beauty of the country. Cuba was very safe,a fealing you realized quite early in the trip and the people were warm and friendly and liked Americans. I hope you take advantage of this opportunity before Cuba is affected by the changing political atmosphere.

This program presents a fleeting opportunity to see a unique society in transition. As the US blockade eases, Cuba will change quickly and dramatically. And Road Scholar's approach helps to illuminate all the most interesting parts. If you are at all interested in the history and cultures of the Americas, don't miss it!
Sylvia

If you want to visit Cuba, this is the trip for you!Road Scholar has organized a trip that is ideal for travelers that want to see Cuba from the inside. The Best of Cuba is a great adventure for those who want to meet the Cuban people, visit a working ranch, and learn about a beautiful country that so few have had the opportunity to see up close. Make plans to visit Cuba soon. You'll be glad you did!
Elizabeth

Many people will soon begin flooding Cuba to see the sights in a place cut off from the USA for many years. The important thing about Cuba though, is the people. This program gives the opportunity to see and experience the real Cuba with Cubans who have been living a different experience than us. There is no better way than this to see the world through their eyes.

I returned from this trip in January 2016. Hints to make it easier for you: Bring a device to make it easier to open the water bottles. 30 % of our tour people could not open them they were so tight. Bring tons of wipes and sanitizer. Water is not always available to wash. Brush your teeth with bottled water, You will have to buy some water because they would only give two small bottles of water per day on the bus. Bring your own medicines for all gastronomical stomach upset conditions. Bring some antibiotic prescribed by your doctor. 90% of the 24 people on our 11 day tour got sick at least once. We stayed at the best hotels and ate at the finest restaurants available. You only can spend the CUC, a tourist money. There is a 13% tax on US currency conversions and only a 3 % tax on others like the Euro and Canadian dollars. All conversion are the same and done at a government owned teller. For $4.00 a minute you can use your Horizon cell phone. The country and people: Cuba is a very poor country; it is different than many 3rd world countries, because of the communist socialist system. All basic human needs are met. They have universal 9th grade education, health care and art as a creative outlet. All Cubans are given free education up to PhD, good health care (their infant mortality is equal to or better than the USA), free housing and get $22 a month for their food and clothes. There is religious freedom and all of the Cubans we talked to seemed free to talk their minds. The maid and the hotel manager all make the same $22. The government owns almost everything and businesses, buildings, farms, etc. a person can own clothes, bicycle, horse, cow, cart, car and personal house or apartment (you can only own one domicile). They are very slowly allowing small business restaurants to open in people’s house, mostly for the tourists. One meal at a Palador (A small Restaurant owned by a family within their home) is an amount equal to a months Cuban pay.

This is a wonderful, highly varied learning experience focusing on understanding the music, different root foods, great seafood and new education expectations of Cubans. This is an exciting island, full of changing opportinities for citizens interested in private enterprise. Music is constantly being played in every venue, I loved it. Pay attention to the description of the highly active physical participation, and walking on cobblestoned roads. That is very accurate.
