Activity note: Hotel check-in is at 3:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Transfer to the hotel for check in. At 5:00 p.m. meet the group in the hotel lobby for the Welcome Orientation. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the program theme, the up-to-date Daily Schedule and any changes, discuss safety guidelines, emergency procedures, roles and responsibilities, and answer any questions you may have. Indicated times are approximate. Program activities, schedules, and personnel may need to change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: Welcome dinner at the hotel. Water is included in the program cost at all meals. Unless otherwise noted, all dinners are a three course set menu.

Activity note: Up to 3 miles of walking for 3 hours in the city and through the museum.

Breakfast: At the hotel. On this program, breakfasts will offer a typical European style breakfast buffet with breads, cheeses, cold-cuts, yogurt, fruit, cereals, juice, milk, coffee, tea and water.

Morning: Enjoy an expert-led walking excursion through Bergen. Situated on the west coast of Norway, Bergen is Norway’s second-largest city with over 300,000 inhabitants. It is estimated that the city was founded in 1070. Bryggen, the old wharf of Bergen, is a reminder of the town’s importance as part of the Hanseatic League’s trading empire from the 14th to the mid-16th century. After discovering the Hanseatic Quarters, take the Fløibanen funicular up to Mount Fløyen and enjoy the view over Bergen. Take in a lecture about the city and its locals and walk back down to Bergen and the hotel.

Lunch: At a local fish market.

Afternoon: Take a coach to the south of Bergen to explore the home of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. The house was turned into a museum in 1928. Edvard Grieg called his home 'Troldhaugen' which combines the Norwegian words for troll (trold) and haug (hilly), because there is a nearby valley called "The Valley of the Trolls." After the museum, transfer by coach to the Fantoft Stave Church. After exploring the church, transfer back to the hotel.

Hiking in Bergen

Activity note: Up to 2.8 miles of walking for 2.5 hours on mountain paths. These paths can be muddy at times.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Take a coach to the valley station and take a gondola up to Mount Ulriken, the highest mountain in Bergen. Take in the gorgeous views of the city and bay. Enjoy a scenic hike on Mount Ulriken with a field lecture. Take the gondola down to Bergen after the hike. Transfer back to the hotel.

Lunch: Explore local fare on your own.

Afternoon: Enjoy a free afternoon to see and do what interests you most.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Transfer to Flåm, Biking Beautiful Fjord Landscapes

Activity note: Up to 12.5 miles of biking over inclines and declines.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Walk to the Bergen train station and then take a train to Myrdal. On this beautiful train ride, you will pass raging rivers, dramatic forests, and stunning mountains; the typical Norwegian landscapes!

Lunch: Explore local fare on your own on the train.

Afternoon: Upon arrival in Myrdal, the luggage will be transported to the hotel in Flåm. Hop on a mountain bike for a spectacular, expert-led bike ride. Enjoy a beautiful view of typical Norwegian fjord landscapes, riding by waterfalls and mountains. The first part of the bike ride is steep and everyone needs to go slowly. The bike ride ends at Flåm. Walk to the hotel. Check-in and relax.

Flåm, Kayaking on the Nærøyfjord & Stegastein Platform

Activity note: Kayaking for approximately 3 hours. Please note that we will not kayak if there is bad weather or storms. Up to 3 miles walking from the farm village back to Flåm, approximately 3 hours.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Walk to the shore and meet the kayaking guide. After preparations, enjoy a kayaking trip along the shore where one can often see eagles. The waters are a deep blue and you will feel serene as you float inside the fjord. Finish the kayaking trip in Flåm.

Lunch: Explore local fare on your own in Flåm.

Afternoon: Transfer by coach to the panorma platform Stegastein. Experience the spectacular Stegastein viewing platform, 650 metres above Aurlandsfjord. By coach transfer to the Otternes farm village. It is located halfway between Aurland and Flåm. The settlement comprises 27 dwellings and is beautifully situated with views of Aurlandsfjord. View the exterior of the houses before starting the hike. Hike back to Flam. There is also the option to take the coach back to Flam.

Transfer to Lofthus, Boat Ride on the Spectacular Nærøyfjord

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: After breakfast, take a boat to the town of Gudvangen. This spectacular boat ride goes through the narrow Nærøyfjord, passing farms high on the mountain, waterfalls, and small villages.

Lunch: At the Stalheim hotel with its great panoramic views.

Afternoon: From the Stalheim hotel, take a coach to the family owned Ullensvang Hotel and check-in. Enjoy some free time before dinner.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Hiking a part of the Queen Sonja’s Panoramic Hiking Trail

Activity note: Up to 7 miles of walking for approximately 5-6 hours on trails. Altitude gain of approx. 2000 feet, altitude loss approx. 2000 feet. Dirt road and mountain paths. The path is on some parts very close to the edge of the mountain.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Transfer by private coach to Røte. Today's hike is the only one of its kind to be honored with using Her Majesty, Queen Sonja’s title. In the past 20 years, this trail around Hotel Ullensvang has become one of her favorites which she explores either by foot or on skis. The trail is in the high mountains between Kinsarvik and Lofthus and offers magnificent fjord views. We will hike through forests and lush meadow up to the third panoramic point of this trail. During the hike you can enjoy amazing views over the fjord.

Lunch: Picnic lunch at the midway point.

Afternoon: After a picnic lunch we will turn around and hike back the same trail to Røte.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Kayaking along the Hardangerfjord

Activity note: Up to 3 hours of kayaking.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Transfer by coach to Eidfjord, where we will begin our kayaking excursion. Kayak along the eastern part of Hardangerfjord.

Lunch: Picnic lunch along the way.

Afternoon: Return via kayak to Eidfjord and afterwards transfer back to the hotel by coach.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Transfer to Bergen, Glacier Hike

Activity note: Up to 3 miles of walking for 4 hours on the glacier. Participants do not need prior experience in glacier hiking. The group will be divided into two smaller groups according to fitness level and there will stops along the way.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Check out of the hotel and take a coach to Jondal. At Jondal, in the glacier center, take in a lecture. After the lecture, drive on a sepentine road up to the glacier and equip yourself with crampons and helmets and venture into the blue ice.

Lunch: Picnic lunch on the glacier.

Afternoon: Continue the glacier hike. Afterwards, take the coach and drive to Bergen. Check in to the hotel.

Dinner: Farewell dinner at the hotel.
