This was an excellent trip, with a great group of people, and very interesting variety of activities. I enjoyed the two days of kayaking, and the beach walk at Bull's Island, with our small group of eleven. The history of the area, especially the day in Charleston, were very worthwhile . This was my first Road Scholar trip and I was very impressed with the planning, the guides, the food. All very good, and made for a relaxing and enjoyable trip.

One of the best travel experiences of a lifetime! Our guide brought knowledge of the low-country from paddling and camping in it since childhood-- matched with formal education on the area. When else have you heard a guide call to a hoot owl, to have that call returned from deep in the wetlands. All in all a magical week deep in the low-country of S Carolina-- in areas I could never access on my own!

Absolutely loved this experience. Found myself smiling and even humming as we wandered through nature.

I had never been to South Carolina and got a great sampling of life in the Charleston area kayaking the beautiful estuaries, hiking through Bulls Island, a barrier island in the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, and visiting the city of Charleston. The naturalists and guides were outstanding. This was my second Road Scholar trip and I look forward to my next one.

The instructors on this program, Gates and Olivia, were exceptional and I learned so much from their wealth of knowledge! Coastal Expeditions does an excellent job! Unfortunately, the group size was far too large, which caused less time on the water than was advertised.

This was a great trip! Unfortunately, the group was too large and that made for less birding and slower kayak launches and so on, but luckily it was a great group of people and guides. If you enjoy the outdoors, kayaking and walking, this is the one. I was tired, but the trip was not as strenuous as I thought it would be. The kayaks were really nice ones for good paddling. Downtown Charleston was interesting and our guide did fine, but the other activities were more my style. Now-FOOD! Breakfast was a disappointment and our group complained-and it improved-but in no way was it targeted to healthy eating. Lunch was a box lunch with a nice sandwich and side, and cookie-but a piece of fruit would have been nice too. Snack for those days with long hikes & paddles was non-existent until we asked . With more than 6 hours between meals and strenuous activity in between-a snack is important. Offer fruit and/or a healthy granola/protein bar. Dinner was catered in and a bit odd. There was never enough salad, meat choices OK, not great (fish was dried out), green veggie choices different-just OK, a tiny no flavor dessert was included. Overall, this was a great trip, enhanced by perfect weather and a comfortable group of people and good outfitters.

This was my first RS trip and I was very impressed with the quality of information and the diversity of the the experience. I feel I now have an understanding of what the "low country" is and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
