Markus Urban
Dr. Markus Urban was born in 1976 in Würzburg, directly on the Main River. He became a Nuremberger at the age of five, but his interest in history did not awaken till his final years at school. During his studies at the University of Erlangen and Kalamazoo College in Michigan, he led German and foreign guests at the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds, the Palace of Justice, scene of the Nuremberg Trials, and through the old medieval town. Between 2003-2006, Markus obtained his doctorate on the function and perception of the National Socialist Party rallies. At the same time he developed the first series of onboard talks for river study cruise ships and worked as an excursion leader on the stretch between Amsterdam-Budapest and on to the Black Sea. He continued to work on academic historical projects and participated at international conferences. In March 2010, he completed his training as a “Beersommelier” at the Doemens Akademie in Gräfelfing.
