We'll explore the plot, characters and music by Sherman Edwards. Take a 30-minute break to stretch, take a short walk outside or down to the lake, and refresh your coffee or tea in preparation for our next presentation. Next we'll look at the changing face of music with the Beatles and the British Invasion. It is rightly called a phenomenon and changed not only music but fashion and popular culture. We'll also look at the Detroit sound coming out of Motown Records. Founded by Barry Gordy, Jr in 1960, Motown launched many careers such as the Jackson 5, the Supremes and the Four Tops. Motown had 79 top 10 records between 1960-1969.

Lunch: In the retreat center dining room at 12:30 p.m., our lunch buffet offers a variety of rotating choices such as salad bar with lots of fresh toppings, sandwiches and wraps, casseroles, soups, cookies and dessert bars, along with milk, coffee (regular/decaf), tea (hot/iced), and water.

Afternoon: Let's return to Broadway and the 1966 hit "Cabaret", music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Set in 1931 Berlin, the Kit Kat Klub and its collection of characters play out life's tragic, touching and humorous moments. Memorable songs include "Willkommen", "Mein Herr", and "Maybe This TIme" along with the title number. Take a break at 3:30 p.m. and have some time to enjoy the grounds and lakefront.

Vietnam became a hot button in foreign policy for the U.S. In its efforts to combat Communism, more and more military advisers were sent to Vietnam following the Gulf of Tonkin incident, estimates suggest over 500,000.
