Afternoon: Afternoon transfer to the hotel and check in. Orientation is scheduled for 5 PM. Please meet in the lobby. We will gather in our private meeting room in the early evening where the Group Leader will greet you with a warm welcome and introduce everyone. We will review the up-to-date daily schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Discovering Strasbourg

Activity note: Walking up to 3-4 miles in the morning over cobbled stone streets. Flat terrain and a few stairs.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Enjoy a morning walk in Strasbourg. Discover the section called La Petite France and the beautiful famed cathedral.

Lunch: At a local restaurant in the historic center of Strasbourg.

Afternoon: Explore the Palais Rohan and Strasbourg City Museums. Enjoy a guided introduction followed by free time for individual explorations of the Fine Arts Museum, the Decorative Arts Museum, and the Archaeological Museum.

Dinner: At or near the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Free Time in Strasbourg and Embark the Madeleine

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: This morning, your local expert will take you on a walking field trip to discover more of Strasbourg. Check out must be completed by 11:30 a.m. Luggage can be stored in the lobby.

Lunch: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.

Afternoon: Explore at your own pace, visit museums or simply enjoy the city. Later on, we will board the coach for our transfer to the barge in Lagarde and upon arrival, embark the MS Madeleine, your home for the next six nights.

Dinner: Welcome dinner on board.

Morning: Morning spent cruising toward Xouaxange. Passage through the Réchicourt lock, one of the largest in France, before continuing our journey. After breakfast enjoy a presentation titled "Learn about Navigating and the History of the Alsace-Lorraine Canal."

Lunch: On board.

Afternoon: This afternoon, explore the city of Sarrebourg, the gateway to the Vosges mountains. The city has a rich historical diversity and its church features unique stained glass windows created by Marc Chagall.

Xouaxange to Lutzelbourg & Inclined Plane of Arzviller

Morning: This morning is spent cruising towards Lutzelbourg. Our boat will pass through the Arzviller inclined plain for a truly unforgettable experience. A fantastic piece of workmanship, this type of transverse boat lift is the only one of its kind in Europe.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch by candlelight while we pass through the Arzviller and Niderviller Tunnels.

Afternoon: Located at the foot of the incline for over 25 years, the crystal workshop is a family-run business specializing in the art of hand blowing and cutting crystal. You will learn about this time-tested tradition, and watch crystal blowing and cutting demonstrations. The canal then winds through the Vosges Mountains before joining the Lorraine region.

Morning: Set off on foot to marvel at Lutzelbourg Castle. Perched at over 980 feet above sea level on a rocky, red sandstone spur, the ruins of the castle majestically dominate the village down in the Zorn Valley.

Lunch: On board.

Afternoon: This afternoon we will enjoy a field trip of Château de Haut-Barr, nicknamed "The Eye of Alsace", where you will discover a splendid view of the Alsatian plains.

Dinner: On board.

Evening: Enjoy an after dinner walk in the village Saverne on your own.

Morning: Virtually unknown by the usual tourist routes, Saverne offers a wide range of places to discover: the Grand Rue with its unicorn fountain (the town's emblem); the Katz house, adorned with magnificent carved timbers; Notre Dame Church with its 12th-century steeple; various 18th-century administrative buildings; and the Récollets Monastery founded in the 14th century.

Lunch: On board.

Afternoon: Enjoy the afternoon sail towards Waltenheim, passing the charming village of Hochfelden, and Schwindratzheim, nestled on a hillside. Enjoy a presentation titled "A Brief History of Alsace and Lorraine" led by your Group Leader. Learn about these two French provinces and their very unique history.

Waltenheim (Wingersheim) to Strasbourg

Activity note: Walk of 2 - 3 miles over flat roadways and sidewalks

Breakfast: On board.

Morning: This morning, hike along the hops trail in Wingersheim. With a heritage of wine-growing and beer-brewing, the Alsace will give you a new perspective by showing you how hops is grown. Afterwards, enjoy a beer tasting.

Lunch: On board.

Afternoon: Cruise through the Zorn Valley and its landscaped fields where the canal is wide and straight.

Dinner: Farewell dinner on board.

Evening: Night Cruise of Historic Old Strasbourg by small boat (water levels permitting).

Morning: This morning, after an early breakfast, we transfer to the Strasbourg airport,train station, or bus station (depending on your flight itinerary).
