The Mississippi River lived up to its legend "rollin, rollin, rollin". That alone was a thrill and made one feel part of the River.

You can't beat this trip. The combination of the New Orleans and paddle wheeler gives a good change from busy and restful. Wonderful eating, too!

Art and I loved everything about this trip! New Orleans was wonderful; all instructions were clear and easy to follow. Our leader Lyndel B. was with us every step of the way. Some of the walking was a bit difficult for few in our group, but transportation was easy to find..........the bus driver was very helpful. The boat was everything that we imagined and there was always something to do in our free time. Thank you for offering this tour. We give it 5 stars! Art and Bev from Indiana

Lyndel did a great job as our guide. The only suggestion I would make is to let folks know there is a lot of walking on uneven surfaces during the New Orleans portion of the trip and the bus cannot pick up in front of the hotel thus the participants must walk over one block to reach the bus. Also, there are very few accommodations for handicap assistance. On the boat portion of the trip all of the shore excursions include walking and the plantations have lots of stairs and no handicap provisions. In my opinion, this trip will be difficult for anyone with mobility challenges.

We had a wonderful time on the February Mississippi River Cruise. Our local host, Lyndel Brauninger, was very knowledgeable, cheerful, always available and handled the inevitable glitches and logistics of the trip with such a big group with grace and calm. Her familiarity with New Orleans history, neighborhoods, food, music and culture is deep and wide and added immeasurably to my enjoyment and education. Our trip scholar, Brian Altobello, another New Orleans native who also clearly loves his city, gave fascinating and accessible lectures on different periods in the unique history of this unique American city. The steamboat, the American Queen, was elegant, old-fashioned and comfortable, and succeeded in transporting us back to another time and way of life. It was truly a magical trip. If I had any suggestions at all, it would be for a smaller group: 36 people, some with mobility issues, are quite a few to herd, load, unload and guide. Despite our group's size, Lyndel handled us beautifully, including having to deal with mid-trip program changes occasioned by exceptionally high river levels. It was adventure I highly recommend and hope to be able to repeat.

This was an amazing trip! The guide for our trip, Bea, was a true Southern belle native .....I loved her stories and all the other scheduled lecturers were so knowledgeable and interesting....highly recommend this adventure for seeing the “best of the Mississippi” and 3 days in New Orleans, the food and riverboat American Duchess also amazing! Thank you Road Scholar for such a well planned trip!

The city of New Orleans, its history and its present, are too wonderful not to be a part of your life. The experience of steamboating on the "Big Muddy" is a wonderful way of learning about our country's past, plus being a very relaxing vacation with like-minded folks.

This was a wonderful way to experience New Orleans and the southern end of the Mississippi River. Our leader, Bee Byrnes, was superb! Our hotel Monteleone and the American Duchess paddle boat were also wonderful.
