Afternoon: Arrival transfers from Lisbon Airport to the hotel. Check in at the hotel and take some time to unpack and to relax before orientation. We will gather in our private meeting room where the Group Leader will greet you with a warm welcome and introduce everyone. We will review the up-to-date daily schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: Welcome dinner at the hotel.

Portuguese History, Cabo do Roca, & Cascais

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will begin with a lecture on the history of Portugal given by a historian. Afterward, we will transfer to Sintra to explore the "Palacio Nacional da ViIla." The main building dates from the 14th century, while the wings were added in the 16th century. The interior contains remarkable decorations, including 16th and 17th century tiles.

Lunch: On your own to explore local cuisine.

Afternoon: We will stop at the westernmost point of continental Europe, "Cabo da Roca" and later drive through Cascais before returning to Lisbon.

Dinner: At a traditional Fado House, where you can discover this traditional Portuguese song and music.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Enjoy a panoramic tour of Lisbon by bus with a visit to Jeronimo's monastery, the Belem Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries. Afterward, we will stop to taste the local pastry before proceeding to the Maritime Museum.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Join your Group Leader for a discovery of Bairro Alto or catch the tram and enjoy the ride, going through narrow streets and feeling the soul of the capital. Following the visit, we will return to the hotel. Before dinner, meet with professionals from Lisbon where there will be a Question and Answer session about life in Portugal.

Morning: Enjoy a lecture about contemporary Portugal. Afterward, we will depart Lisbon and drive north along the coast. Our first stop is the historic walled fortress city of Obidos. Afterward, we will make our way to the Alcobaca Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Lunch: On your own to explore local cuisine.

Afternoon: We will continue our drive north to Figueira da Foz to check in at the hotel.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Morning: We will transfer to Coimbra where we will have a visit and private presentation of the Unversity of Coimbra. Afterward, enjoy a guided walking discovery of Coimbra's old town.

Lunch: On your own to explore local cuisine.

Afternoon: We will return to Figueira da Foz with a stop at a local school to learn about education in Portugal.

Dinner: Enjoy dinner with a local family.

Morning: We will begin with a visit to the salt pans of Figueira da Foz, where you will learn about the history of salt and the evolution of the production of salt in Portugal. Afterward, we will continue to Montemor o Velho, where you will enjoy a guided visit.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: We will depart for Porto, the spectacular capital of northern Portugal and a city famous for its nearby vineyards. Enjoy a visit to the home of a Portuguese family and have a chat about family life in Portugal and taste their family estate-produced wine. We will then check in at the hotel.

Dinner: On your own to explore local cuisine.

Evening: At leisure.

Morning: We will depart on an exploration of the Douro Valley. Our first stop will be in Quinta da Aveleda where there will be a guided visit to its gardens followed by a tasting of their wines and cheese. Then proceed to a vineyard for lunch and a visit.

Lunch: At a wine estate in the heart of the Douro Valley.

Afternoon: We will return to Porto through the village of Pinhão. We will stop at one of the most impressive belvederes in the Douro Valley.

Dinner: Enjoy a farewell dinner with the group.

Evening: At leisure.

Morning: Enjoy a guided tour of Old Porto. The city is one of the most beautiful in Europe and it still retains its charm and beauty. We will explore the tiles at São Bento station and its old streets and squares. Afterward, we will enjoy a panoramic tour of Porto followed by a river cruise.

Lunch: On your own to explore local cuisine.

Afternoon: Take the afternoon to pack or to discover more of the city on your own. Later in the afternoon, you will meet with your group leader for a program wrap up session.

Evening: At leisure.
