Road Scholar participants will stay at the stately Assembly Inn, originally constructed in 1929 and recently renovated. The beautiful stone building overlooks a small lake, and has a spacious lobby with a fireplace and comfortable furniture for fellowship, puzzles and games, or just relaxing. Participant housing, meeting facilities, and the dining room are all in the same building. An elevator services all floors except for seven steps that lead to one main meeting area. There is a lift available for wheelchair access, or for those who cannot do steps (has to be operated with a key, and a staff member will instruct to enable you to operate it yourself). Double occupancy rooms have two twin beds, or one queen-size bed or one king-size bed. Single occupancy rooms have either a queen or king-size bed. All rooms have private baths. The bathrooms have a tub/shower unit, and ADA rooms have a walk-in shower. The bedrooms also have a clock or clock/radio, Kleenex, closets and lamps, as well as a sink and counter and a large mirror. Bath soap and hand soap are provided, but shampoo and conditioner is not. Blankets, sheets, pillows, (beds are made), bath mat and a towel set will be provided (rooms are serviced by our housekeeping staff and clean towels are available daily). There are no TVs or phones in the individual housing rooms, but there is a TV in the main lobby. A quiet reading room is also available, located near the main lobby of the Assembly Inn. Wireless Internet access (with personal laptop) is available in all areas of the Assembly Inn. Computer in main lobby for access to email and Internet. Courtesy phones are located on each floor. Of Montreat’s 4,000 acres, 2,500 are dedicated to wilderness and are entered in the NC Registry of National Heritage Areas, and we have more than a dozen maintained hiking trails. Tennis courts also available. A lovely fitness center is located just a few miles away, and they offer daily or weekly rates for visitors.
