Green Lake is a perfect setting for a week long writer’s retreat. The conference center is comfortable and private. The food service staff is very accommodating. The individuals who attended the workshop were welcoming and inclusive for group activities, and otherwise, very friendly. And there was a bit of free time with which to hike the grounds and even take a quick day trip. This is a physically low key program, but we had a full schedule with day workshops and writing assignments at night. Although the program theme and assignments lent to a memoir-type genre, each of us had the flexibility to approach the assignment with our own preferred genre. Because of that approach, I felt the instructors facilitated more than they taught. Basically, we could “run with it”. I recommend this program to writers of all levels, from hobby to professional if they would like a relaxed week of writing. Most writers I met at this workshop were hobby writers: poetry, non-fiction, fiction, short stories, and memoir. If you are looking for classes for legal issues for professional writers, publication options, novel writing trouble-shooting, etc., this workshop will not sate your curiosity. However, the instructors may be able to meet with you one-on-one to answer some of those questions.
