Jekyll Island Club Hotel

Breakfast: In the Club’s Victorian-era Grand Dining Room, we’ll enjoy a buffet with an assortment of seasonal fresh fruits, yogurt, scrambled eggs, hot and cold cereals, breakfast meats, breakfast potatoes, grits, homemade pastries, toast, bagels, and muffins, and a daily special breakfast entrée, plus coffee, tea, milk, juices, and water.

Morning: This program is intended for participants who already play social or duplicate bridge who would like to improve their game based on modern bridge guidelines. Intermediate Bridge is a program designed to present modern bridge popular conventions such as Stayman, Jacoby Transfer, Week and Strong opening bids and Slam bidding as well as the use of overcalls and takeout and negative doubles in the bidding process. Modern play of the hand and defense by the opposition are also presented. This program is not intended for rank beginner or advanced bridge players nor those who wish to focus on tournament play. Our expert will cover Modern Bidding which includes opening the bidding and responding at the appropriate level as well as making a plan to fulfill the contract. We will discuss the Stayman Convention which includes the importance of the 4-4 fit am using partner's responses to get to the best contract. Also we will cover Jacoby Transfer a response in an artificial manner so that the NT opener's hand remains hidden and bidding the best contract. Hands illustrating each lesson will be played during morning instruction and in the afternoon.

Lunch: In a banquet room, we’ll enjoy a selection of salad, sandwich or soup, plus coffee, tea, and water.

Afternoon: We’ll participate in round-robin style bridge play where we play and analyze preset hands based on this morning’s subject matter. The format affords us opportunity to learn and play with new acquaintances in a relaxed and social environment.

Dinner: At the Club.

Evening: We’ll gather in our private meeting room at the hotel with our instructor to shuffle, play and relax for an evening with no set agenda. As we play with our new friends, we’ll consider how today’s lesson fits into our individual style of play. Our instructor will be on hand to observe, make comments, and answer questions.

Jekyll Island
B,L,D
Jekyll Island Club Hotel

Breakfast: At the Club in the Grand Dining Room.

Morning: This morning we will continue to build confidence on Slam Bidding that gives large bonuses for bidding and making contracts when you have 33-37 combined points. Also we will cover Weak Opening Bids that allow you to compete by opening hands with fewer points and a long suit.

Lunch: At the Club.

Afternoon: Mini-bridge tournament. We will continue to fine-tune what we learned through play and discussion. Wrap-up and review. Remember that bridge is a lifelong game. There are millions of possible hands, each offering its own mystery. While we arrived at Jekyll Island with intermediate skills, we now possess the knowledge and confidence to play with anyone playing the Standard American system.

Dinner: At the Club.

Evening: We’ll continue “shuffle and deal” play in a relaxed friendly environment with our instructor available for assistance. We are not only learning Bridge with each other; we will also be playing in a Club where gilded-age millionaires once enjoyed the game.
