This educational tour has been an eye-opening, inspiring, and humbling experience. Having been12 years old when the successful Cuban Revolution came to power, I have lived much of my life thinking that I knew much more than I actually knew and understood. This tour experience is helping me to grow beyond my previous illusions and biases.

This was a great trip and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about Cuba and its culture plus it was a lot of fun. By taking 2 wks. one is able to see much of the island, learn about its history, and meet its people. One of the best RS trips that I have taken.

This is the tour to take if you are interested in getting an in-depth tour of Cuba including its history, culture, religion, art, music, food, healthcare, and education. Many chances to meet Cubans and learn about their lives. Interesting discussions about Cuba's relationship with other countries and the changes they are undergoing. As one of our guides would say, "anything is possible in Cuba but nothing is guaranteed!"

Cuba was most interesting. The trip leaders (one Cuban and one US) were both excellent. The cultural arts was the biggest surprise - the very best and saw performances by very gifted and talented individuals. The artwork was first class. The introduction to history and the events leading up to it was very informative. Very warm and welcoming people in Cuba. I wanted to visit before Starbucks and McDonald's appears on every corner. Good trip, well done by Road Scholar. Program was active, educational and enjoyable.

Eye-opening excursion into a world closed to the US for so long. Warm and welcoming people, with a love of music, dance, and each other that we can all emulate.

This is a comprehensive/interactive tour of Cuba. You get an excellent overview of Cuba today. I would recommend the trip that goes from Santiago to Havana.

As a Cuban American that has not been to Cuba since arriving to the United States many years ago, I recommend the Road Scholar experience because of the in depth journey of the island from Santiago to Havana, as well as much learning from experts and lot of fun added to the mix.

This was our first Road Scholar trip and we could not have been more pleased. Our guides were exceptional, our accommodations were better than expected, food was good, but most importantly the rich diversity of the program gave us a much richer view of Cuba, its people, history and culture. We took the 15 day tour from east to west and highly recommend its opportunity to expose us to the breadth of Cuba.

I greatly enjoyed the 16 day Cuban Trip. I met lots of interesting people and learned a lot I didn't know about Cuba. Our group was very happy our tour started from the East and ended in Havana. We liked starting in the countryside and ending in the large city.

This was our first experience in group travel. We have always traveled independently and will continue to do so. That said, for unfamiliar destinations we will look no further than Road Scholar in the future. Look forward to programs in Russia and Latin America.

I felt so fortunate to be able to travel the length of this fascinating island at this unique point in time in the company of informed, caring guides and interesting fellow travelers. The program offered experiences that would not have been available otherwise. I returned home enriched by the experience with a deep appreciation for our neighbor to the south.

The excitement I feel having just returned from two weeks in Cuba has already affected friends and family. It is an experience I recommend for any one that the least bit of curious about the last fifty years and today's Cuba.

We don't know enough about Cuba in this country. Go with Road Scholar on a people to people trip, preferably 2 weeks and do the whole island - you'll love the people you meet, the activities included, the accommodations, the varying forms of transportation, amazing meals at family run restaurants - the whole package! Can't say enough nice things about the program.

This opened my eyes to what life in like for Cuban people. Our countries embargo has contributed to making life more difficult for them. I was really amazed at the high level of education and culture (music, dance, art).

How lucky our group was to have Manuel and Jose as our guides. Their knowledge was amazing. Also, starting in Santiago de Cuba and traveling to Havana, we all agreed, was an excellent way to see the history of the country. All of the people to people activities we engaged in were so very valuable. Bring money for the excellent CD's. This also helps support the musicians. (Advice to others: Have a pocket full of small coins for bathroom attendants. Your will need two ten cent coins or a twenty-five cent one.) This was a trip that will stay with us always; part of my heart is still in Cuba and it would not have been the same without the Road Scholar tour.

This program far exceeded my expectations. I loved it! It was very informative, very interesting, and very well designed to maximize the opportunities to experience Cuban culture. I was a little hesitant to go for such a long trip, and yet I was sorry to see it end. Thank you Road Scholar!

What a wonderful experience this trip was from beginning to end! I especially liked that we traveled across most of the island. The landscape and topography are beautiful and inviting. The Cuban people are welcoming and interesting. I have a very new perspective on Cuba.

Inside Cuba was a fabulous program! I had dreamed of visiting Cuba since I was in my 20s, and this trip far exceeded my expectations. For 15 days, visiting more than 7 cities, we saw the most important places in Cuban history, experienced how the country works, and were treated to wonderful music and dancing! The Cuban people we met, the instructors, the students, the guides, the musicians and dancers, our program leaders and all the participants made this an outstanding experience. I will be recommending it to all my friends.

I recently traveled to Cuba with a wonderful group of folks. We had a fabulous time sharing the experience...learning and laughing our way throughout the trip. It was an absolutely fabulous time with the warmest and most wonderful programs directors from the US and from Cuba. Kudos to Manuel, Ernesto, and Angelito!!! More than that, I thank my fellow Scholars. Each of you made this the best trip EVER!!!

Our trip was bookended by Obama/Rolling Stones and Carnival cruise/Kardasian visits. Highlight was meeting convoy returning from Communist Congress where Fidel appeared and spoke. What a memorable time to be in Cuba. Learned SO much.

I highly recommend this more comprehensive itinerary as it enabled us to learn about more areas/people in Cuba. We would have missed out on important experiences if we would have chosen a shorter itinerary.
Dennis
(5)
I came away from the experience with a much broader and more understanding viewpoint of the country, it's people and history, and it's geography. The leaders helped us communicate with a diverse sector of the population and provided the places to enhance that communication. I would highly recommend the program and the people who organize it; they really go all out to make sure you have a great experience.
Dawn

I believe that they showed the real people and real places of Cuba as no other group could do. You want to know a country, go with Road Scholar.
Robert
(5)
This was an outstanding indepth two week tour of Cuba that put us in touch with a wide variety of Cuban people, gave us tremendous insights into the difficulties faced by the Cuban people, taught us much about the turbulent history of Cuba, while creating fun events that allowed us to enjoy Cuba to the fullest. This was a bucket list tour for sure. The tour may take you out of your comfort zone, but it will be well worth it.

Our recent 2-week trip to Cuba was educational & fun. Though the daily itinerary wasn't exactly as shown in Road Scholar booklet, all things mentioned were covered. It was definitely Active in that we did a fair amount of walking and cut back on our usual amount of sleep. We felt very welcome in Cuba and the Road Scholar Leader, Cuban Guide and Bus Driver were top-notch. Cuba is in a time of political and economic transition, making it a great time to visit. We will remember the generosity of spirit of the people and the warm welcome we sensed. Buildings may be crumbling in places, but the landscape is thriving. The resilient people of Cuba are its treasure. Plus, you can buy Cuban cigars & rum & lots of trinkets!!

This is a wonderful journey to an island of contradictions and wonderful giving people, this is Cuba! Our group leader, guide and bus driver were excellent, as was the program. Starting in Santiago de Cuba and ending in Havana was prefect. We experienced lovely art, music, dance and laughed a lot along the way!

Our trip to Cuba was our first experience with Road Scholar. We will definitely used them again for other travels!

Cuba is a complicated country and visiting it at this critical juncture really opened my eyes to many facets. There were many aspects where Cuba is really getting it right, and others where they have suffered unduly because of the embargo and human rights issues. It would be impossible to experience this cultural immersion without coming to care for the people and their future.

A fascinating adventure to a long-mysterious land of beauty, art and music, warmth and welcome, and the results - pro and con - of five decades of "tropical socialism."

This trip was the absolute best. Every day was a treat and got better and better. A very comprehensive view of Cuba, the country, its history, its culture and the people. Our guide was fantastic and our tour group got along marvelously for the 17 days. Unforgettable memories especially riding in the back of a 1950's car.

This is our 5th Road Scholar trip and one of our favorites! "Inside Cuba: An in-depth Island Journey" was indeed that. We traveled from Santiago to Havana with a wonderful group of participants and an excellent guide, Jose. The people-to-people experiences were outstanding; as were the exceptional art, music and dance as well as learning about the history, seeing monuments, modes of transportation, cemeteries and more. We felt safe, welcomed by friendly people. The food was plentiful and delicious. Cuba is in a period of transition and we encourage interested folks to visit Cuba sooner than later. My husband and i just returned from the 2 week IN Depth Journey to Cuba. It was a wonderful trip! I so enjoyed all the people to people encounters in dance, music and the arts. Our guide Jose was delightful and very knowledgable. Willie our bus driver was amiable and a really safe driver. The Cuban countryside is beautiful and the people are warm and friendly. There were lots of fun planned activities but there was more free time than i expected to either stroll and explore, take photos or rest. Our group of 21 people were really nice, considerate with good senses of humor. We lucked out there! If you are able to do this trip..do it and do it soon!! You will not be sorry...

WOW! There is no better way to describe our impressions of Cuba. We learned about Cuba, from it's colonial history, independence and dictatorships, to the Castro Revolution that has molded current-day Cuba, as well as the promise, and concerns, for Cuba's future based on a new relationship between the US and Cuba. We also learned about modern day life, culture, food, music, religion and language as a result of the Spanish, French and African/Haitian influences. What a truly phenomenal Roads Scholar experience!!!

We learned a lot about Cuba on this trip. We were glad we went when we did before it changes with more and more tourists showing up. We came home the day just before Obama arrived. it was an exciting time to be in Cuba. Times they are a-changing!

There was so much to experience outside of Habana, including being able to truly interact with every-day Cuban people. I can't recommend the tour more highly!
Raymond
(5)
This program certainly lived up to its name, as it gave me the opportunity to see a lot of Cuba and interact with many Cubans. I came away with a different viewpoint and a determination to learn a lot more about the contentious relationship that we have had with with that country for the past 60 years.

The 2 week trip to Cuba was fabulous. The trip is somewhat tiring due to the many experiences involved and lectures scheduled. The accommodations are fine but more meals outside the trip should be scheduled. It was a great experience and my second wonderful experience with RS
Richard

Go to Cuba. See for yourself. It is not what the propaganda would lead you to believe, Beautiful, warm, friendly people. Lovely surroundings with flowers, so many flowers, history, incredible architecture and music that keeps you feet moving and art that grabs your soul. Oh yeah, it is safe.

What a wonderful experience it was to spend these 2 weeks in Cuba. Meeting the Cuban people and learning about their lives has given me memories that will last and last. A great opportunity to see the country and be exposed to different beliefs and cultures through the expert presentations and people at many different strata of Cuban society.

Viva Cuba! So glad we made this trip, the Cuban people are a joyous people and wonderfully welcoming. Would not have been able to enjoy this trip nearly as much had we chosen a different company without the years of experience in Cuba that Road Scholar offers. The exponential growth of tourism has created chaotic conditions and one needs to be flexible as plans can be rearranged. We were able to fully enjoy the people and adventures on our 16 day tour while our able RS guide Cuqui and our Cuban guide Eddy ironed out kinks along the way. Happily, our only job was to experience and enjoy! This was our first Road Scholar trip but won't be our last. The fellow travelers were educated, curious, affable, and not an ""ugly American" traveler among them.
Lew

Cuba is fascinating! Take this longer trip if you are able and yo will get a sense of the entire country. Itinerary is full and varied. Trip exceeded my expectations.

Our two week trip to Cuba was a complete pleasure in every conceivable way. Bravo to Road Scholars for putting together such an interesting, informative, enjoyable, and valuable program.

This trip was Fantastic!! People were great, friendly. Hotels were much better than expected, I would compare to a Marriott in the US All had shampoo, conditioner, etc, hair dryers, room safes, irons, etc. Food was much better than I expected. Had lots of lobster, fish, etc. Only minor complaint is that it tended to be bland. Windy Redlinger, our group leader, went out of her way to take of everyone. The Cuban Tour guide was great, with a wealth of knowledge on history of Cuba. You will enjoy
Jeri
(5)
This was an interesting 15 day learning experience. The schedule was very ambitious with limited free time. Country guide and Lecturers were excellent. It is heart breaking to see the poverty in this small island country and the effects of communism resulting in lack of infrastructure development and basic hygiene in many areas. This is not a resort visit.
Barry
(5)
Fantastic learning experience going to Cuba-really helps us appreciate just how wonderful residing in the USA really is.
Ellen

Don't limit yourself to Havana and environs. The eastern end of Cuba is fascinating and gave me a much fuller picture of Cuba. I'm still trying to mesh what I saw, heard and learned with my preconceptions which frequently turned out to be MISconceptions.
Andrew

If you want to get a feel for Cuban life, culture, history, music and attitudes this is the trip for you.

RoadScholar's "Inside Cuba" program is a great way to learn about a country that is so close to the U.S., and to see it's beauty and meet it's people up close and personal. Very rewarding!
Susan
(5)
This Road Scholar program is well worth considering. Inside Cuba: An In-Depth Island Journey took us from the southeast to the northwest of the island in two weeks, time which we needed to understand the people of Cuba and to enjoy all that they, and Road Scholar, had to offer.
Sherry
(5)
We were so pleased with our 15 day Inside Cuba visit. This was our first Road Scholar trip and it far exceeded our expectations! Go see Cuba now before it changes!

Go to Cuba NOW! The country will never be the same as it is today.

(5)
Road Scholar is a wonderful way to see Cuba. There are so many aspects of Cuba that are unknown to the everyday American and this tour gets its participants in touch with the usual and unusual parts of Cuba.
Patricia
(5)
Learned more than I read about Cuba in books. Totally debunked my understanding of the rift between the US and Cuba since 1959 when I was in high school. Fantastic experience. I only hope we don't now destroy this Cuba by over-running her.
Glenn
(5)
The 15-day Inside Cuba far exceeded our expectation and gave us the adventure of a lifetime. Our Road Scholar guide (Jim Fitch) our Cuban guide from Havana Tours (Yanelis Bernal) and our bus driver (Ishmaiel) were a dynamite team. Thank you Road Scholar!
Martha
(5)
The two week program was perfect to travel from the east to the west coast, stay in several towns, experience the people-to-people events (especially the schools, music/dance programs), and have excellent lecturers on different topics. I learned so much and am in love with the Cuban people....thanks to Road Scholar.
John
(5)
Cuba is still an analog world, but the 21st century is arriving! Great opportunity to see the country, see the sites and hear the music! You will interact with Cubans who now have a unified sense of national identity, an entrepreneurial mind, and a musical heart. They are eager to re-engage with us Yankees as a respected if smaller neighbor.
Cheryl
(5)
We just returned from the 15 day Cuba trip - An In-Depth Island Journey. The trip was amazing, educational, interesting. The group leaders were excellent. I can't say enough about this trip. We are avid travelers, many times planning our own trips. After this trip, we may switch completely to Road Scholar.
Karl
(5)
Our Cuba trip was a exceptionally informative, fun, & amazingly eye-opening. Much of this was due to our tour leader, our tour guide, & our bus driver. The latter 2 Cubans gave us a vision of Cuba many of us did not expect and were tremendously pleased to see. Our schedule of starting in Santiago and ending in Havana was very beneficial tour our appreciation of our trip. The consensus of our group was that it might have been a different and less enjoyable experience done in the reverse.
Robert
(5)
I am a very experienced international traveler and found this was perhaps the most eye-opening tour I have ever been on. Cuba and its people are wonderful. Your view of Cuba (and maybe the world) and your view of your own world-view will find new clarity and joy. *Stimulating. *Fun. *Informative. *Engaging and more. Trust me, you must go and experience Cuba yourself... and Road Scholar is the best way for the average person to do it.

The two week trip, beginning in Santiago de Cuba and ending in Havana is the way to go. The lectures from local academics were fascinating and informative. The local guide we had was extraordinary and the variety of activities was outstanding. If you love people, art, music, dance and want to meet our closest neighbors, go to Cuba!
Jessica
(5)
This is an excellent opportunity to see many areas of Cuba and experience the culture and the people.
Kenneth
(5)
Viva Cuba y su gente!! What a blessing to be able to travel over 700 miles and experience a diverse array of Cuban music, dance, art, history, architecture, food , people and terrain. The Cubans are remarkably resilient, friendly to North Americans, proud of their culture and arts and very creative. I admire their passion for life. I would welcome a natural history tour of Cuba.
Edward
(5)
A wonderful program. I would rate it the highest possible.
Robert

Fantastic program. A real learning experience. One of our favorite adventures. Manuel our group leader and Jose our cuban guide worked very well together. Our only negative was the stay in Trinidad at a Bed and breakfast.
