This was a wonderful week with the visual arts - pottery, murals, glass, painting, architecture - plus a tour of the historic Vinoy hotel and the Sunken Garden. Our guides Evelyn and Sherry were informative and took great care of our group, and our amiable bus driver Mike demonstrated impressive skill as he transported us around the city. The week was purposely designed to give participants a sampling/overview of St. Petersburg as an arts center, and it does that well. But don't expect to spend a long time visiting any venue. Everyone in our group wanted more time at the Dali Museum (we had just an hour which was not enough), and there was little time to browse gift shops or sales items at most of the locations we visited. I would have favored making the Museum of Fine Arts, our last stop, an optional venue since it's within easy walking distance of the hotel (about 2 blocks) and participants would have more time to explore its offerings using their personal time. Our group meals were superlative from beginning to end. The Hampton Suites hotel is comfortable and offers a good continental breakfast, excellent coffee, and a happy hour from 5-7 p.m. on Mondays-Thursdays with free wine/beer and hors d'oeuvres. Our group numbered 16 and was the perfect size to get to know other participants and make friends. All in all it ranks as one of the best Road Scholar trips I've taken.

The program exceeded my expectations. Loved everything about it, including the leader, the guides, the variety of venues we visited, the location, and the Hampton Inn where we stayed. It was very centrally located with very comfortable rooms, helpful staff and a very good breakfast each morning and a very nice Happy Hour on week nights with delicious hors d'oeuvres and wine and beer. Many of us participants bonded at that Happy Hour.

The signature city program for St Petersburg, Florida is an excellent opportunity to explore this quaint town with a lot of cultural history and enjoy the fantastic art museums of Dali and Chihuly.

We much enjoyed the St. Petersburg Signature City Program. Field-trip presentations on St. Petersburg's history and murals were interesting and our lunch at and tour of the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel were special. St. Petersburg's museums are gems -- the Dali Museum, Chihuly Collection, and Museum of Fine Arts are outstanding. We were surprised by the remarkable stained glass windows of the First Methodist Church and stories available at the Museum of History. The Hampton Inn was very convenient -- enabling us to walk back to the hotel from many of our field trips (we enjoy walking). The hotel was convenient for walking along the marina and through the park that began across the street from the hotel. Our leader, Barbara, did an excellent job.

Prior to this program, I only had stereotypes of St.Petersburg from my childhood. This well-run program shattered those stereotypes and introduced me to a vibrant city heavily involved in the arts. St.Petersburg truly is a city worthy of getting to know better.

St. Petersburg has a story to tell. This oasis on Florida's Tampa Bay is a thriving cultural destination with many good places to dine with an eye to every pocketbook. It is a walkable city with free trolley rides within the "free" district. We enjoyed learning about this colorful city.
