Activity note: Hotel check-in from 12:00 Noon. Driving to the hotel approximately 67 miles; about 1.5 hour.

Afternoon: After checking-in at the hotel and getting your room, take some time to freshen up and relax as the remaining participants arrive. Orientation: The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. Before dinner, we’ll enjoy a welcome cocktail together, as well as a lecture on the slow food movement.

Dinner: At the hotel, we’ll enjoy a set, plated meal featuring regional cuisine and fresh seafood, plus a glass of wine, mineral water, and coffee; other beverages available for purchase.

Evening: At leisure. We’ll continue getting to know each other, settle in, and get a good night’s rest for the full day ahead.

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach. Walking up to 1.5 miles, approximately 2 hours; standing up to 1 hour. Uneven surface and dust. Walking up to 1/2 mile; generally flat terrain. Driving under 1 hour.

Breakfast: At the hotel, we will enjoy a meal, with coffee, tea, water included.

Morning: We will then travel a short distance to the medieval village of La Morra and go on a truffle hunt with our local expert. We’ll sample typical dishes prepared with truffles, then enjoy an on-site lecture on the history of white truffles.

Lunch: At a local restaurant, we will enjoy a light lunch including a truffle tasting. Coffee, tea, water included.

Afternoon: We’ll then transfer to Grinzane to visit the castle there as well as the truffle museum. We’ll enjoy some time to explore the town on our own before returning to the hotel.

Dinner: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions.

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach. Driving today over 1 hour. Walking up to 1.5 miles, approximately 2.5 hours; standing up to 1 hour; generally flat terrain.

Breakfast: Hotel meal.

Morning: We will depart for Cherasco, the Chocolate City, which boasts some of the most important chocolate firms in Italy. We’ll visit one of them and enjoy a chocolate tasting, with some time afterwards to explore the town. Following this, we’ll transfer to the Banca del Vino in Pollenzo for a wine tasting, and then the Cascina Pistone in Borgomale, a local producer of Pecorino cheese made with the raw milk of the local endangered sheep of Langhe.

Lunch: At a local restaurant, we will enjoy a light lunch including a cheese tasting. Coffee, tea, water included.

Afternoon: We will return to the hotel via the medieval town of Monforte.

Dinner: At the hotel restaurant, we will enjoy a plated meal with coffee, tea, water included.

Evening: At leisure.

Breakfast: Hotel meal.

Morning: We will travel to Alba to visit the truffle market, and learn about truffle-hunting dogs with a sensory analysis that will explain their hunting abilities.

Lunch: On your own.

Afternoon: Free time. Take this opportunity for personal independent exploration to see and do what interests you most. Please refer to the list of Free Time Opportunities. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.

Dinner: At the Boccondivino restaurant, a member of the Slow Food Alliance, we will enjoy a meal, with coffee, tea, water included.

Evening: At leisure. Be sure to prepare for checkout and transfer in the morning.

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach. Driving about 1.5 hours. Walking approximately 30 minutes on cobblestone streets.

Breakfast: Hotel meal.

Morning: After checking out of the hotel, we will board our private motorcoach and transfer to Pavia. During our ride, we will stop in Turin, with a visit to the main square, and learn about the history of the Savoy family.

Lunch: At the local restaurant, we’ll enjoy a set, plated meal featuring regional cuisine and fresh seafood plus a glass of wine, mineral water, and coffee; other beverages available for purchase.

Afternoon: We will travel to Pavia and check into our next hotel, with the rest of the afternoon free.

Dinner: At a local restaurant, we will enjoy a plated meal. Coffee, tea, water included.

Evening: At leisure.

Morning: From the hotel, we’ll set out to explore Pavia on foot with our Group Leader. Then we will travel via motorcoach to the Certosa di Pavia, a monastery and surrounding complex, for an expert-led visit.

Lunch: At the local restaurant, we will enjoy a meal, with coffee, tea, water included.

Afternoon: We will enjoy a visit to the local rice field, led by a local expert who will teach us about the importance of rice cultivation in this region.

Dinner: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions.

Evening: At leisure.

Morning: We will transfer by motorcoach to Milan to visit the Duomo and the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology.

Lunch: On your own at the museum.

Afternoon: We will continue our visit at the museum before returning to the hotel for the evening.

Dinner: At the hotel, we’ll enjoy a set, plated meal featuring regional cuisine and fresh seafood, plus a glass of wine, mineral water, and coffee; other beverages available for purchase.

Evening: At leisure.

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach. Driving over 1 hour. Walking up to 1 mile, approximately 1 hours on cobblestone streets

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We will board our motorcoach and transfer to Cremona, with our visit of the town led by a local expert. We will also visit a luthier’s laboratory. Traditional violin craftsmanship in Cremona is recognized as a UNECSO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Lunch: On your own.

Afternoon: Returning to the hotel, the remainder of the afternoon will be free time.

Dinner: At the hotel, we’ll have a plated and served farewell meal with wine, coffee and water; other beverages available for purchase. We’ll share some of our favorite experiences from the program with fellow Road Scholars.

Evening: At leisure. Be sure to prepare for checkout and departure in the morning.
