The Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival is a wonderful musical adventure. But beware the Hotel Madison: a beautiful, new hotel lacking necessary amenities and charging extra fees.

I did not know of this festival’s existence before I received the catalog listing it. It is a real treasure. The organizer/conductor is an amazing person. Seeing a rehearsal really taught me to listen to music in a way that I have not done before. And the musicians themselves were wonderful and obviously loved what they were doing. I also loved Harrisonburg. Beautiful little town.

For those who enjoy classical music, the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival is a feast! Concerts at least twice a day, plus talks by and with musicians, add up to far more of a musical holiday than just going to one concert and then going home.

The friendliness of everyone involved with the SVBF orchestra is exceeded only by the excellence of the music itself. They say that "Bach is only the beginning" and many other composers, even modern ones, are included.

This RS event was wonderful: the music, the presenters, the food, the Shenandoah Valley. One caveat: before you sign up, go to the Bach Festival website----as the Road Scholar write-up/description suggests---to see what music will be performed during the days of the RS event. Fortunately I am retired so had time to go to the Bach Festival link, and knew exactly which composers and works would be presented. Some attendees did not do that research , assumed it would be mainly Bach, and were disappointed. So, do what any prudent shopper would do and check out the schedule before you sign up. If you do that and decide to sign up, you will be delighted; if you fail to do that and expect an all-Bach week, you might be disappointed. Please continue to offer this program---I would definitely consider going again.
