I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. I got to see places (Thomas Hardy's home, for example) that I would never have found on my own. Kevin made the connection clear between the places we saw and the authors we'd read. The English countryside through which we traveled was beautiful. Our Bath hotel was especially luxurious; I felt very well taken care of. Chris kept everything running smoothly. I loved the size of the group and enjoyed my travel-mates. Overall, I was very pleased with the trip. My only quibble is that I would have liked a heavier emphasis on literature, and a bit less on architecture. I chose the tour because I wanted to focus on literature, after all. But it all fits together, I suppose. I thought it was a great program. I am surprised and dismayed to learn that Road Scholar is discontinuing it. I would like to see more literature programs offered.

An excellent program that covered the literature topics in depth and provided a great deal more in breadth. If Kevin and Harvey are leading your tour, you will have a stellar experience.

Great program! Visited interesting and beautiful venues which many tourists miss, with knowledgeable and helpful guides. If you are a fan of Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy and/or Agatha Christie, don't miss it!

This is a very good program for those interested in English history, culture, archaeology and literary personages. I could not always keep up with the pace but that is a function of my age and a leg injury. The Bath hotel is lovely but distant from the city and the food was generally very good. We all enjoyed the ambience and location of the Dorcester hotel albeit too much deep fried food was served at dinners and there is no elevator. This isa program I would recommend as the lectures were outstanding and the tour guide the best I have ever had..

This program is designed for people who are interested in the authors, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, Thomas Hardy, Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens. The program includes places where they lived and wrote and was most interesting and informative. I would recommend it.

I've traveled quite a lot and experienced a dozen or more excellent Road Scholar adventures, but this one is perhaps my favorite so far. I was truly immersed: in England's geologic, political, and social history from the Jurassic era onward. But I inhabited the learning more deeply because it came partly through the stories of these five great writers. (Even those with no knowledge of some of the writers, such as my husband, were engrossed.) While the learning was prodigious, the days were also extremely pleasurable: bucolic scenery, delicious food (lots of baked goods!), excellent company, and group leaders who were personable, skilled, funny, warm, and very, very smart.

Highly recommended. The group leaders were excellent, the content outstanding, the locations beautiful and outside of the normal tourist paths.
