Interesting mixture of literature, history of England, the social life and geography too. Highly recommended.

This was a memorable trip very well organized and interesting. Especially enjoyable was our 5-day stay in Bath where we toured Jane Austen sights, the Roman Baths, and nearby villages. Many of the meals were buffet style, not my preference but adequate. All the hotels featured comfortable en-suite rooms. The accommodations in Bath, although lovely and roomy, was located outside of town requiring either taking a bus or a taxi. A more convenient location would have been better. In Dorchester, another beautiful and historic hotel, lacked an elevator, necessitating climbing 2-3 flights of steep steps. This represented a hardship for seniors on this tour. Both our guides, the two Kevins, were outstanding. Kevin, the study leader, was a font of knowledge. He entertained us on the bus trips with appropriate readings from the novelists we studied. Kevin, the tour manager, had our backs throughout the trip making sure everyone was safe and accounted for. I would recommend this trip for anyone interested in English history and English literature. I hope that this tour is reinstated in future Road Scholar programs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. I got to see places (Thomas Hardy's home, for example) that I would never have found on my own. Kevin made the connection clear between the places we saw and the authors we'd read. The English countryside through which we traveled was beautiful. Our Bath hotel was especially luxurious; I felt very well taken care of. Chris kept everything running smoothly. I loved the size of the group and enjoyed my travel-mates. Overall, I was very pleased with the trip. My only quibble is that I would have liked a heavier emphasis on literature, and a bit less on architecture. I chose the tour because I wanted to focus on literature, after all. But it all fits together, I suppose. I thought it was a great program. I am surprised and dismayed to learn that Road Scholar is discontinuing it. I would like to see more literature programs offered.

An excellent program that covered the literature topics in depth and provided a great deal more in breadth. If Kevin and Harvey are leading your tour, you will have a stellar experience.

Great program! Visited interesting and beautiful venues which many tourists miss, with knowledgeable and helpful guides. If you are a fan of Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy and/or Agatha Christie, don't miss it!

This is a very good program for those interested in English history, culture, archaeology and literary personages. I could not always keep up with the pace but that is a function of my age and a leg injury. The Bath hotel is lovely but distant from the city and the food was generally very good. We all enjoyed the ambience and location of the Dorcester hotel albeit too much deep fried food was served at dinners and there is no elevator. This isa program I would recommend as the lectures were outstanding and the tour guide the best I have ever had..
