Morning: This morning your expert instructor will lead a familiarization drive introducing the city of Manaus, stopping for a guided visit to "Teatro Amazonas" the well-known Manaus Opera House

Lunch: Lunch will be at a typical local restaurant serving local river fish & meat dishes.

Afternoon: After lunch drive to “Museu do Homem do Norte” a museum displaying the various aspects of daily life and traditions of the people of the North Region of Brazil in particular the Amazon Forest region. One of the trained voluntary hosts will lead the visit explaining the various traditions. Returning to the Hotel your Group Leader will advise the place and time to meet for a welcome meeting and drink to formally introduce your fellow Roadscholar participants.

Dinner: Following drinks at the Hotel Bar, tonight we transfer to a local restaurant serving typical Amazonian dishes to enjoy your Welcome dinner

Morning: All morning guided visits, starting at "INPA-Instituto Nacional de Preservacao da Amazonia" where you will be introduced to the Manatee preservation project by one of its Biologist in charge.

Afternoon: Free time to relax and explore on your own

Dinner: Dinner at local restaurant or at Hotel

Evening: For programs during the Month of May the group might be able to attend an Opera performance at the Amazon theater. On other times of the year will Depend on availability

Activity note: Easy walk on level terrain around the market. Transfer by Boat to Ecopark . At the Jungle Lodge walk at an easy pace on jungle trails. Some are uneven and you might have to negotiate large protruding tree roots. Bring some firm walking shoes/booth.

Morning: This morning you checkout of the Hotel. Depart with your local expert instructor to the Local “Municipal “ Market on the banks of the Amazon River, where you will be introduced to local and exotic products and mingle with the locals observing their way of life. Continue to the dockside where you will board the boat transfer to the Amazon EcoPark Jungle Lodge. Check-in and a guided orientation of the Lodge

Lunch: Lunch at the Lodge

Afternoon: Free time for unpacking. Then You Group Leader will arrange a place and time to meet mid afternoon and depart on a guided walk Through the forest to the Orchid preservation Project and the "Quelonios" (Amazon turtle) breading project. guided explained by your expert Biologist

Dinner: Dinner at the Lodge

Evening: This evening a free optional excursion by canoe to observe night wild life and alligators.

The Might Amazon- Meeting of the Waters-Victoria Regias

Activity note: Early morning Jungle walk, negotiating tree roots, and some uneven forest trails. Your will be getting in and out of boats to see the meeting of the waters & Victoria Regias.

Breakfast: Very early cup of coffee , before a guided walk on a Jungle Trail, returning for a proper breakfast

Morning: Early morning guided trekking along a tropical forest trail to observe and learn about the Amazon flora and fauna. Then depart on a full day field trip introducing the phenomenon known as "Encontro das Águas" or "the meeting of the waters" -observe the patterns appearing when the heavy silty fast flowing water of the Solimoes river meets with the lighter slow flowing black waters of the Rio Negro. Marvel as they run side by side for miles without mixing, creating interesting patterns on the surface. This is the beginning of the mighty Amazon River still 1500 kilometers (937 miles) to go to its mouth.

Lunch: Lunch will be enjoyed at a typical local restaurant on the river bank

Afternoon: After lunch you will then transfer into small boats to explore the narrow Igapos and Igarapes to spot and observe wild life & "Victoria Regias", on the return journey to the Lodge.

Activity note: You will be travelling on small boats on the river and will have the opportunity to dive and swim with the legendary pink dolphins of the Amazon

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Lodge

Morning: Departing early for a field trip where your local expert instructor will introduce the pink dolphins, endemic to the Amazon region. Here you will be encouraged to enjoy a hands on experience by jumping in and swimming with the Amazon pink dolphins. Return to the Lodge to change into dry clothes. Checkout of your room .

Lunch: Lunch at the Lodge

Afternoon: After lunch some free time to relax and enjoy the Lodge grounds before transferring to the airport for the flight to Brasilia later this afternoon/early evening. On arrival in Brasilia you will be transferred to the Hotel and check-in to your room.

Dinner: Depending on your flight time, dinner will be the airline on board service, complemented by a "packed snack" for the flight.

Activity note: Today you will be visiting Brasilia, at an easy pace, getting in and out of the coach, as well as negotiating some steps inside the buildings that you may be visiting Such as the Foreign office Palace, and if open the House of representatives.

Morning: This morning your expert instructor lecturer will introduce the unique urban design and concept of the City of Brasilia designed by Lucio Costa in the 60's to be the new capital of Brazil. He will share His passion for this city pointing out some of the most iconic buildings designed by Oscar Niemeyer, explaining the city layout of Lucio Costa and the abstracted landscape of Burle Marx.

Lunch: Lunch will be experiencing another local restaurant

Afternoon: Afternoon In the afternoon you visit some of the emblematic buildings of the city such as the "Palacio do Itamarati"-Foreign Office Palace, the Cathedral and if open you will also visit the Senate and Congress buildings (the visits will happens if official buildings are open depending on government activities). Continue to the airport to check-in for your evening flight to Salvador. On Arrival transfer to the Hotel for check-in to your room

Dinner: Depending on your flight time, dinner will be the airline on board service, complemented by a "packed snack" for the flight. or a snack will be available on arrival at the Hotel in Salvador

Morning: This morning transfer to “Palacete das Artes” for your -Lecture: - Salvador Observed: Colonial Capital of Brazil, African cultural influences in Brazilian food, music, and religious syncretism. After the lecture a free time to explore the permanent collection and any visiting exhibition that might be on show.

Lunch: A light Lunch at the museum cafeteria.

Afternoon: This afternoon your expert instructor will introduce a private collection of "Slave Jewellery" at Museu Costa Pinto a colonial neo classical mansion donated to the State as a Museum. Continue to "Forte da Capoeira" to visit a school for "Capoeiristas", where some of the students will present their skills and an opportunity to chat with them after the performance. On the return journey a stop at "Mercado Modelo" a former slave marketplace, on the lower town and developed as an Arts & Crafts market.

Dinner: Returning from our visit stop at a local Shopping mall where after some free time dinner will be at a local restaurant.

Morning: This morning we take it easy departing mid morning for an all day out in Salvador where your expert instructor will introduce the Heritage, that came to Brazil with the African people brought by the Portuguese as slaves in the 16th Century. Start with a walk exploring "Pelourinho" preservation area on the high town with a stop to view and learn about the unique Portuguese tile panels in the cloisters, of S Francis Church depicting Lisbon before the 1755 earthquake destroyed most of the city.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant

Afternoon: After lunch continue to explore "Pelourinho" visiting Pierre Verger Gallery and an important and unique private collection of African arts & crafts donated to the city by an Italy gentleman -Claudio Marsela,

Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant before theater tonight

Evening: Tonight attend a performance of "Ballet Folclorico da Bahia", presenting Folklore songs & dances typical of Bahia.

Lunch: Late lunch at a local Restaurant

Afternoon: After the late lunch return to the Hotel for some rest, before tonight especial event.

Dinner: Depart for a especial evening at "Rio Scenarium" a popular evening venue where locals come to enjoy traditional Brazilian music and you will mingle with them enjoying the music and spontaneous dances Three floors full of a variety of antiques as a shop during the day, it is transformed into a music place serving typical food to nibble while during the night unfolds. It will be a memorable evening.

Morning: This morning is aiming at introducing a little more of the local people "way of life".Take time on your own to walk and mingle with locals along the sea front with the main avenue, close to traffic on Sundays creating a 3 miles long recreation zone. Then we take a short drive to explore "Sao Salvador" square, like a "carioca" .This is where local residents gather on Sundays to hear musicians jamming at the band stand playing mainly Brazilian music-"Chorinho" mixed with Samba, Bossa Nova and jazz. Browse the local handcraft stands around the square.

Afternoon: This afternoon your expert instructor, will introduce the “Royal Botanical Gardens" of Rio de Janeiro founded in 1808 by the King of Portugal D. Joao VI to acclimatize spice plants. The Royal Botanic Gardens is one of the oldest in South America. World famous for its variety of species from around the globe, its Imperial palm trees planted by the King. Einstein and Queen Elisabeth II of England are just two from a list of more recent famous visitors. Transfer to "Laranjeiras" to catch the "clog railway". Lead by our local expert instructor you will visit the statue of Christ Redeemer, symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This iconic landmark inaugurated on October 12, 1931. Standing 38 meters high, 710 meters above sea level on top of Corcovado Hill, was built with popular contributions from the "Cariocas" , native people from RIO. We ride to the top on the clog railway winding through the largest urban tropical forest to the four escalators and panoramic elevators leading to the viewing platform around the foot of the statue.

Dinner: Tonight you are free to enjoy some of the local restaurants on your own. Meet your Group Leader and other participants in the lobby for a relaxed drink while planning and choosing where to go for dinner.

Evening: You may explore the evening street market set up on the beach pavement in front of your hotel

Morning: Take a leisure walk along Copacabana sea front to "Espaco SESC" for this morning Lecture: “BRAZIL Overview- Economics, Demographics, Education & Lifestyle”

Lunch: Free time for lunch on your own

Afternoon: This afternoon your expert instructor will introduce downtown Rio old and new architecture stopping to visit the Modern Metropolitan Cathedral, the new “Rio Maravilha” water front featuring a long mural of street graffiti next to the futuristic “Museu do Amanha” (Tomorrow’s Museum) built by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, and the new “MAR- Museu de Arte do Rio”. Continue this afternoon, return through “Flamengo Park” built on land reclaimed from the sea, and landscaped by Burle Marx to “Praia Vermelha”(Red Beach) where you instructor will take you up on the cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain and introduce this most emblematic landmark symbol of Rio de Janeiro- "Cidade Maravilhosa"( the wonderful city). Traveling by two cable cars, first to “Morro da Urca” (Urca’s Hill) then on to Sugar loaf mountain top, with the city and the shoreline of Copacabana beach at your feet.

Dinner: Tonight, again, you have an opportunity to try some of the local restaurants on your own. Meeting your Group Leader and other participants in the lobby for a relaxed drink before going for dinner on your own.

Activity note: In the Morning a rife on a zodiac boat going under the water falls, then a walk along the Parana River Gorge, to the main falls. mainly level terrain with few steps along the way.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Hotel restaurant.

Morning: Depart from the Hotel walk across to the Visitors center entrance, where you will be introduced to Iguassu National Park. After the introduction and formalities to enter the Park, take a ride on the Park bus to your first stop at “Macuco Safari“ reception. Here starts this exotic and exciting excursion. First hop on to the electric vehicle to ride through the forest, while their expert instructor introduces the local flora and fauna on the way to the river bank. You will receive instructions and your life vest before boarding one of the Zodiac boats and take the ride on the “Parana” river( the seventh largest river in the world) and go close to the bottom of the waterfalls. Your local expert instructor will meet the group back at the reception and take a ride on the park bus to the starting point of this morning field trip. He will walk with you on the footpath along the top of the gorge, all the way to the main horse shoe falls on the Brazilian side. You can walk along the footpath on the edge of the bottom fall along the bottom of the main top fall to observe and feel the mighty power of the falls. Then take the panoramic lift to the top where the park recreation area with observation decks.

Lunch: Free time at the top of the falls leisure complex, where you can enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants and cafeteria overlooking the Falls, explore on your own.

Afternoon: The remaining of the afternoon is free. Your Group Leader will advise the options to return to the Hotel with the group and for those wishing to stay a little longer in the Park or to return and explore the hotel facilities and the extensive gardens all the way to the gorge.

Activity note: Today there will be some extensive walk during the visit to “Refugio Biologico”. The ground is leveled and very little inclination. Take some comfortable walking shoes.

Morning: Today you will have an all day experience at the Itaipu Bi-Nacional the world largest Hydroelectric complex. Your expert instructor will introduce the complex while driving along the top of the five miles long dam all the way across to Paraguay on the other side. Stopping at vantage points for photos. An opportunity to visit the Eco museum.

Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant outside the Complex

Afternoon: This afternoon return to the Complex on a visit to "Refugio Biologico Bela Vista" - An environmental conservation unit created in the 70s to house thousands of animals dislodged by the power plant. There is also a center where Itaipu researches the production of tree seedlings, and studies captive wild life reproduction, implementing preservation procedures, as well as rehabilitation of degraded areas. Return to the Hotel for a little rest.

Dinner: Meet your Group Leader in the bar and enjoy a drink with fellow participants before going out for Farewell dinner at a typical Brazilian BBQ Restaurant..

Activity note: Easy level walk on mostly flat and paved footpath at bird Sanctuary

Breakfast: Breakfast served at the Hotel restaurant.

Morning: This morning Your last adventure experience in Iguassu. Walk next door to "Bird Park" where your expert instructor will do a brief presentation of the Sanctuary, you will be free to explore the species of endemic and other migrating amongst the over 1000 birds from 150 different species, housed here. Return to Hotel for your last packing before checking out of your room. Your program activities end here

Afternoon: Your Group Leader will be informing you the time of your afternoon transfer to airport and check-in to your return flights
