This was an amazing small group adventure. The camp was rustic but had everything you might need. Fabulous meals served family style gave us the opportunity to meet a diverse group including Steven Kress who founded Project Puffin and returned these birds to Eastern Egg Rock. His staff was dedicated and knowledgeable. Bring binoculars and camera to see a variety of seabirds and learn how to protect their environment. Getting in and out of boats nearly every day and walking on rough terrain was expected but disembarking onto slippery rocks from a tide-tossed dory and then scaling large rocks to get to ground level was quite a challenge. From start to finish this is a well planned program.
Come with a passion for the environment and willingness to do physical labor, and leave with a sense of accomplishment!
This program was one of the best ever. The instructors, guides, helpers, volunteers, participants, food and learning was exceptional and I enjoyed every part of my experience. I hope to do more in the future and have to say that the weather was really perfect as well.
I heartily agree with Barbara's assessment. I only want to add that she was one of the most interesting participants in the group and we all benefited from her impromptu presentation on marine biology!
If you want to meet the people who are worldwide leaders in seabird conservation, acquire an in-depth knowledge of what they have learned, and work side by side with them on islands off the coast of Maine this is the right program for you! This is a rare opportunity to be with scientists of the highest quality, who also are wonderful teachers and really nice people too.
