If you think you may be too old to travel you are wrong? This is a marvelous opportunity for older people, perhaps with some disability, to enjoy and learn about a new culture and environment without feeling uncomfortable or fearful.

I just came back from 10 days in Costa Rica. It was such a wonderful experience that I can hardly express it in words. The group leaders and driver were so kind, helpful, knowledgeable and supportive. I experienced Costa Rica in a way that I never expected to and learned so much. The trip provided a great balance of lecture, experiential learning, interactive learning and down time - it made for the perfect vacation. I highly recommend this trip.

As a single traveler woman I am happy to have found Road Scholar travels! It was the perfect way to travel and I will be on watch for more travel adventures! I felt happy and safe and in complete charge of having myself an exciting adventure filled with interesting lectures. Each place we visited was covered by lecture from a passionate and knowledgeable expert. It was truly interesting. The companions on the trip were all like minded, kind, intelligent and fun loving people. I leared a lot about the country (Costa Rica) culture, history and biodiversity. I was revitalize and learned a lot about the country , all while having the best time of my life. Thank you Road Scholar people all and each of you. Plus my tour guides Javier Miranda, Alex Eamirez - love and respect out to you both you all were passionate, knowledgeable, interesting, caring professional all the way. Thank you Johanna Hernandez

I find the response from Road Scholar headquarters are not nearly as helpful and personable as they were when I and my former husband went on many Elderhostel programs. The wait time to be heard on the phone is unreal: leaving your number for a call back at your place in the queue only happened one time; the people on Live Chat not very helpful. In fact, yesterday we were promised a call back from a RS employee regarding a Wait List Opening. He did not call!

Fabulous trip balancing the many aspects of this wonderful country with the logistical problems of serving the needs of the members who don't want a strenuous tour.

Fascinating trip shared with interesting fellow travelers. Our guides Alex Ramirez and Javier Miranda were great; knowledgeable, unflappable, friendly and approachable. We enjoyed their enthusiasm for their amazing country. All trip logistics were smooth and stress free. The opportunity to stay in the rainforest and learn about it’s unique plants, animals and ecology was wonderful. Loved it all and can’t wait to return to Costa Rica.

Natural Wonders of Costa Rica at a Slower Pace was wonderful! Our first time with Road Scholar, and everything was excellent: the fine itinerary at a slower pace, the amazing lodgings, the dedicated, knowledgeable and friendly leaders Wendy Brenes and Alex Rodriguez. Very compatible group of 18! We'll definitely choose Road Scholar again! Mary and Ted Johnson

This is a richly varied program in several major sections of Costa Rica. THe activity level is quite correct in saying that it is an easy pace. I would highly recommend this program.

This was an outstanding program. It was just the right mixture of educational programs and leisure time. The group leaders were well organized and fun to be around. They organized everything very well, which allowed me to relax and just let each day unfold. We were immersed each day in the natural world of Costa Rica, which is beautiful and very special. The scenery, forests, plants and animals are breathtaking. We also had a chance to interact with farmers, schoolchildren, and scholars. The food and lodgings were wonderful.

If you prefer to spend less time on the bus, and three days instead of two in one location, then this is for you.

I have been on several Road Scholar trips and all were good but this was the best of all. The beauty of the country and the quality of the program were fabulous.

This was a great trip. The country of Costa Rica is doing many things to improve the ecology. We had extra special tour guidess named Wendy and Alex who knew so much about the plants, animals and birds.Alex could make the howler monkeys talk back to him. You can drink the water and the food was good, especially the fresh fruits ( many of them I had never tasted before) and vegetables. It did rain a lot even though we went during the "dry season" but it didn't keep us from any of the activities. If the pace of the days is too much, there is no problem with taking a day or an activity off. I have difficulty with my knees and the pace was fine though some were jealous that my cane had a fold out seat so when we were standing listening to people describe the gold or orchids or macaws or volcanoes, I could sit. I was really glad I made this trip and I loved the country. I highly recommend it.

seems easy to navigate. I'd love to see a segment that helps you sort out what places to visit for birding or watching nature. Like the ability to search all Road Scholar trips that include nature and birding

Bring binoculars to fully enjoy spectacular birds and other wildlife. The variety of activities were amazing. Our leaders and fellow travelers were outstanding. We chose the easy pace to compensate for tropical weather.

A good introduction to the flora and fauna of Costa Rica. A beautiful lush country where we were in Sept. While wildlife was not abundant, we did see a variety of them. Generally warm to hot and humid. But I thoroughly enjoyed the trip; glad I went and would recommend it to anyone wanting to experience some of the tropics. Our RS guides were great.

I loved my tour and everyone on it. I got to see things I never expected such as a Blue Jeans Frog and a boa constrictor up-close and in the woods. I took over 1000 pictures, 3D photos, and 360 movies-- some of which might be worth sharing on your website. My only concerned is that I may have accidentally handed a RS staff member $1 instead of the $20 that I had intended. If so, I hope I'm forgiven for the mistake! I meant no insult. Also, I have some great photos of Javier and Alex doing cool stuff... if they'd like copies, I posted them in an album on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154282250625946&type=1&l=7cb93f598c Let them know they can friend me if they like!

Two thousand words are not enough to describe how much I enjoyed this experience! The leaders were well informed and unfailingly kind. The speakers who were clearly experts in their fields, spoke entertainingly, and were even, at appropriate times, funny. The accommodations were so lavish that I don't know how the program's planners were able to offer it at such a low price. This trip was one of the highlights of my life.

We participated in this program, "Natural Wonders of Costa Rica" because my husband is waiting for knee surgery, and therefore is not presently able to take a more active trip. I wondered if this would be be "too slow" for me. As it turned out, the program was perfect for both of us. We were both stimulated by what we learned about history, farming, and nature in Costa Rica. He was able to keep up with the slow walks in the woods and even the early morning bird watch. We both enjoyed having time to enjoy the pools at the Hotels (where we often visited with fellow participants as we cooled off). We were refreshed and eager for more information at the evening lectures. On previous trips I have often felt too much like I was rushing to meet deadlines all the time and never had time to reflect. We will probably do more "easy pace" programs in the future, if similar trips are available.

The "At Your Own Pace" Costa Rica trip was a perfect way for my elderly mother and me to share a vacation and both come away with memories for a lifetime. What an excellent trip!

What a wonderful introduction to Costa Rica! Ours was not even a birding trip, but we saw so many different and exotic birds that our leader said it exceeded many of her trips intended for that purpose. We were introduced to experiences from the simple (tasting exotic fruits or homemade cheese at a roadside stand) to the educational (pepper and pineapple plantations and how they are run, etc.) to the exciting (an optional zip lining trip above the tree tops and a scheduled outrigger trip in the ocean) to the elegant (having sundowner champagne at a fancy resort's lookout). The housing was varied and representative, often eco-friendly, and always clean and comfortable. Costa Rica, with its ample blessings of exquisite flora and fauna, was the star, but a close second was our knowledgeable, patient, warm and congenial Costa Rican tour leader Glorianna. She represented her country well, indeed! Pura vida!

The program was outstanding and exceeded my expectations by a lot. Our tour guides were really excellent and flexible enough to know if and when we needed a break to recoup. I have never been on a tour like this where virtually every detail was covered and there was nothing about which I could truthfully say was a disappointment. Really fabulous! Thanks Road Scholar.

Please add a comments section. For instance, a hotel may be great in every way but one-it would be nice to be able to explain that. So suggestions/comments can be important and can explain an rating.

When you go on a Road Scholar Tour you can be confident that every detail has been thought of. It is wonderful to know that everything that is stated in the itinerary is included and that you know that the Tour Guides will make sure that your adventure is a perfect balance of learning, adventure and relaxation.

Our tour guide, Jorge Mario, was an outstanding group leader. Passionate & knowledgeable about his country, he provided us with amazing & unforgettable experiences. He always went out of his way to problem solve, when the need arose. He, along with our excellent bus driver, Frank, were a great team that enriched our daily activities. The Level 2 Easy Category worked well for us at this time. Barbara

As an octogenarian I found I was able to handle all aspects of the programme but I did not have to do anything if it had been a little difficult and I would recommend it to anyone of any age. I fell in love with the country and would go back again if it was not so difficult to get there from Australia

An excellent trip, but insulin-dependent diabetics should be aware that some of the accommodations do not have AC, and keeping insulin (and other meds, like Epipens) can be a problem. In my case, it required getting one of a very few rooms with AC at Sarapiqui and paying extra.
