This was a fabulous trip with incredible scenery and birds. Beware, it is NOT "No Sweat". You will hike 4-6 miles on some days with hills and stairs! Worth it, but be sure you are up for it.

Birding New Zealand lived up to our expectations!! Do consider taking this trip.

Sue and Mary were great, enthusiastic leaders. Wonderful birds that were unique to New Zealand. New Zealand scenery and food were very nice. But lots and lots of time driving on the bus. And while birds were unique, there were much fewer numbers of many species and a smaller number of species that made the birding a bit lower than expectations.

I had high expectations prior to this program. I wanted great birding in magnificent locations with people I enjoyed being with. This was all achieved and more. Many of the New Zealand birds are endemic, beautiful, and entertaining. The leaders did a great job in planning the itinerary to maximize the number of species seen and to spot some target birds. We had a wide range of participants spanning the spectrum from hard core experienced birders to near beginners. Everyone had a great time.

Don’t be afraid to try a trip that is outside your comfort zone per subject matter - my spouse chose the trip but I learned so much and was comfortably accepted by other group members and the leaders.

I am a mid-level, life listing birder and enjoyed all aspects of this trip. It is not the hard-core dawn-to-dusk birding available elsewhere but the birding is done with expert guides and we found some very rare species. The terrain can be physically demanding on some days but I managed it with some sweat and being physically fit at age 79.

The Birding New Zealand is probably the best of the programs I have attended. The leaders were knowledgeable, friendly and dealt well with hiccups that tend to pop up on any program. The pelagic trips were truly a highlight for me.

Birding in New Zealand was an extraordinary experience, learning about and seeing the endemic and introduced birds, learning about the efforts to protect their birds who are threatened, and enjoying close up the very beautiful New Zealand countryside, lakes, rivers, estuaries, bays, ocean, mountains, forests or “bush”, islands, and of course, the people.
