This was my first Road Scholar trip, but it certainly will not be my last! This was truly one of the most riveting tours I have done. The days were filled from morning to night with adventure and fun. Participants all had an adventurous attitude, which kept the tour engaging. Friends were made! The guides, Will, Mary, Blue and Ann were just Incredible! Knowledgeable, patient, funny and personable. I would do this trip again in a heartbeat!

This is an adventure that I'll never forget! Will, Ann, Mary, and Blue went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable, confident, and prepared to paddle both in the lake and on the rivers. They encouraged us to step outside of our comfort zones and always assured that those people who had some trepidation about paddling felt comfortable enough to do so. The instruction was EXCELLENT, organized, and on point, and we were all fully prepared to successfully paddle individual duckies down the Nantahala River and over the falls on the last day. Definitely one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life! I will be back for more instruction at the NOC! It is simply the best place in the U.S. to learn with the top instructors in the country. I highly recommend this program for anyone with a spirit of adventure and excitement! The accomodations were amazing and the food was quite tasty as well. A wonderful week!

This was an exceptional fun course. Challenge by choice. We were given skills, knowledge and practice time to allow us to advance from a lake kayak to a river kayak to an inflatable, self bailing white water kayak. In addition, we were able to hike sections of the Appalachian Trail and another trail that had 3 waterfalls. All the instructors (Will Norris, Blue, Ann and Mary) were encouraging, knowledgeable, skilled and patient teachers in our small groups. I highly recommend this course if you are interested in kayaking and hiking.

The crew at the Nantahala Outdoor Center are wonderful. They are friendly, fun, and helpful. They made everyone feel welcome, and were very encouraging in every activity no matter what the experience level of the individual.

The program is so much fun! Learning in three different types of kayaks on three different rivers/lake was challenging and motivating. Each step prepared me for the next. By the time we used rubber ducky kayaks for white water I was ready! I actually amazed myself at what I could do! Loved it!

This was a challenging but wonderfully rewarding experience. All the participants shared a multi-room cabin and all meals which made us like a family. We got to navigate flat and moving water in three different kinds of kayaks plus a raft. We were on the go from 9 in the morning to 5 at night so don't chose this trip if you need down time during the afternoon. Erica, our instructor, helped us build our skill set incrementally and she helped us face down our fears by teaching us how to stay safe in moving water.

Superb program in a beautiful setting! Will & Marvine were great instructors and our small group was extremely compatible.

I attended the program on Aug 14-19, 2016, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Jae Jackson, at NOC, was really great about helping me to arrange transportation to/from the Asheville airport, and in securing accommodations the night before the program started. Please note that you will share a house with the other participants. Bring a mirror as there are none in the bedrooms. Also, if you have a special breakfast cereal you enjoy, you might want to bring it along. Rice krispies and granola are provided along with eggs and bacon and yogurt.

This is my third time doing this program, and again I have come away feeling happy and fulfilled. In the past, I have remarked on how amazing the meals were, and I have to say, they could now stand improvement. However, where in the past I was disturbed by the neighbors because in the heat I had to keep my window open, now I'm delighted to report they have remodeled the cabins to have individually controlled cooling, so no need to swelter and hear distant parties! Also, they have improved the wi-fi, so I was never out of contact with the "real world" unless I wanted to be. What a great time, and even people who were afraid of certain aspects of the program were gently led through the paces and able to participate.
