Activity note: Check-in from 4:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Check-in and Program Registration begin at 4:00 p.m. After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing the up-to-date schedule that reflects any changes, other important information, and to confirm the time and location of the Orientation session. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. Orientation: 5:00 p.m. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. Our hands-on watercolor workshops will be directed by Toni Chaplin, a professional artist with national awards in her body of work. We will have designated work spaces for the entire program and will lock the room at night for safety and security. We will complete multiple paintings on the subject matter assigned by our instructor and display our work during a closing art show. Periods in the daily schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. Next, we’ll set out on a short walking excursion to become familiar with the Shawnee Institute campus.

Dinner: 6:00 p.m. at the Inn, we’ll have a buffet with choices of salads and entrées (one of which will be vegetarian), vegetables, side dishes, fresh fruit, and dessert plus coffee, tea, water; other beverages available for purchase.

Evening: Meet the Artist. We'll meet our watercolor instructor, Toni Chaplin, learn about her experiences as an artist and teacher, and review the materials list. Bring all your supplies to this class. The studio will be open afterwards if you would like to paint on your own.
