Afternoon: Check in at motel after 3:30 p.m. From 5:00-6:00 your Road Scholar staff will be available in the meeting room with registration materials.

Dinner: 6:00-7:00 Enjoy your first dinner in our meeting room overlooking Lake Otsego.

Evening: 7:00-8:30 Orientation and Introductions follow Dinner plus your first introduction to the Glimmerglass Opera adventure.

Evening: Public Preview and Performance of "The Siege of Calais." by Gaetano Donizetti/Salvatore Cammarano The Glimmerglass brochure states: "The story of courage and self-sacrifice in the year-long Siege of Calais during the Hundred Years’ War inspired artists from Donizetti to Rodin. Our new production of this rarely-heard Italian bel canto work examines concepts of homeland and heroism in a region that continues to be a backdrop for conflict."

Evening: After the public preview, enjoy a performance of "Oklahoma!," The Glimmerglass brochure states: "Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical follows a diverse assortment of individuals as they struggle to create lives for themselves in the newly settled Oklahoma Territory."

History's fierce Persian conqueror turns his attention to domestic affairs in a plot in which romantic attraction threatens to obliterate fraternal loyalty."

Lunch: Lunch today is on your own

Afternoon: Attend a preview and performance of "Porgy and Bess" by George & Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward. "Set in Catfish Row by the shores of Charleston, South Carolina, George Gershwin's classic "folk opera" deals with the attempt of Porgy, a disabled beggar, to create a home for himself and Bess, a young woman whose troubled past threatens to consume her present. Porgy and Bess is one of the pillars of the American opera repertory, with unforgettable melodies including “Summertime,” “Bess, You Is My Woman Now,” and “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin.’"

Dinner: Trolley into town for a few minutes of free time before our farewell dinner and discussion.
