It was an exceptional experience at a great value. Road Scholar certainly extends themselves to the program participants. The 12 days went by quite fast. I wouldn’t change anything. Very thorough and informative.

If you are single or if you have a traveling partner, I highly recommend trying Roads Scholar. Our two experiences (one local and one international) have both been outstanding. I definitely can say that we will use this program again for a high quality, very fun, very informative and very safe way of seeing the world!

Do you want to increase your knowledge of Portugal it's history and present day way of life. This fascinating River Boat Cruise is a great experience, particularly for lovers of good wine. Pamper yourself and visit Belo Portugal on this educational, stimulating 2 week cruise on the Douro River.

We thoroughly enjoyed this program. The accommodations, particularly the riverboat, were excellent. The food and drink were delicious. While the beautiful wine-growing region of the Douro was the primary focus of our trip, the tour itself was far more comprehensive and covered a full range of topics about Portuguese society and culture. Our guide, Paula, was outstanding.

This program offers an excellent balance of river travel through a magnificent region with excursions off the ship. It is book-ended by time in two very interesting cities. Educational content was extremely helpful and the guide, outstanding.

Another wonderful experience with Road Scholar. This was my first experience on a river boat and found it to be very enjoyable. The landscapes along the Duoro River were stunning. Salamanca and Coimbra were probably my favorite towns to explore.

The trip was outstanding. Our guide was exceptional. We would recommend this to anyone who enjoys beautiful scenery and a relaxed pace. We glided by beautiful vineyards for 7 days, plus got to enjoy the vibe of several lovely and historic cities and towns.

Portugal was amazing. I could not have asked for a more rewarding trip. Our guide was wonderful. Always a polite, kind, approachable and aware of our groups needs. She never got flustered, always came up with solutions and was a pleasure to be around. The crew and staff were awesome. Clean smaller staterooms on the boat and large spacious hotel rooms. Food provided on the boat was gorgeous to look at and a pleasure to eat and they serve a lot of it. There were wonderful people on the tour and we plan to stay in touch with some of them.

Portugal had not been on my radar but a friend suggested the trip and I am so glad I went. Portugal is a beautiful country with friendly people. Paula was one of the best group leaders I have experienced. Touring the Douro River and staying on a river boat was so much fun. I highly recommend this trip, it is fun, well planned and you will experience a variety of activities, have delicious food, and excellent wines. You will leave wanting to return and explore more of Portugal.
