At a Glance

Go behind-the-scenes at two of North Carolina’s art and craft festivals: Folkmoot USA and the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands! The Folkmoot, originating from Old English meaning “meeting of the people,” has been bringing traditional music and dance from around the world to the Appalachian Highlands since 1984. Attend performances, participate in a workshop with one of the performance groups and even learn a folk dance. Then get special access to the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands with a local expert, exploring the fair, taking in craft demonstrations and learning about the life and works of craftspeople.

Flora MacDonald Gammon
Teacher,singer and instrumentalist, Flora is an interpreter of Scottish and Appalachian traditional folk music. She serves as Music Director for the Grandfather Highland Games and is a Director on the Folkmoot USA Board. Flora, who graduated from East Carolina University, was named Celtic Woman of the Year in 2008 for her efforts to share her Scottish heritage. She enlivens history with song as a visiting artist in schools and as an Road Scholar instructor.
