1
Orientation. Drum Pt. Lighthouse. Museum HistoryTour.

Activity note: Walking tour of the museum, about one and a half hours, and option to walk up Drum Point Lighthouse.

Afternoon: 1:00 pm. Lori Cole will greet you in the Calvert Marine Museum lobby. From there the orientation to the program will be held in the museum lounge followed by a 2:00 guided tour of the Drum Point Lighthouse. 3:00 pm. Check in at Holiday Inn Solomons

Dinner: 5:30 pm. Return to the Calvert Marine Museum to socialize and taste some local wine and cheese while appreciating the view under Drum Point Lighthouse. 6:00 pm. Enjoy a delicious catered meal that will be held near the Drum Point Lighthouse which is on the premises of the Calvert Marine Museum.

Evening: 7:00 pm. Tour the museum by a knowledgeable interpreter and explore the local area through the maritime history. Get a sneak peek at the Paleontology and River to Bay exhibits, which will be focused on later in the week.

Piney Point and Point Lookout Lighthouses.

Activity note: Touring two lighthouses will include walking to various sites and climbing stairs.

Breakfast: Complimentary breakfast at the Holiday Inn.

Morning: 9:30 am Board a motor coach at the Holiday Inn for a tour of the Piney Point Lighthouse and the surrounding area. Walk less than a quarter of a mile to the lighthouse where an expert will eagerly describe its history and allow you to climb to the top for a view of the Potomac River. Rotate through two other exhibits that depicts life on the Potomac River.

Lunch: Noon lunch at a local restaurant in St. Mary's County.

Afternoon: 2:00 pm. The motor coach will take us to Point Lookout Lighthouse where we will meet our guide. Walk through the house and imagine how life must have been like as the guide tells its history before returning to the Holiday Inn.

Dinner: 6:00 p.m. Enjoy a wonderful barbeque dinner from Boomerangs Restaurant in the museum’s third floor lounge.

Evening: 7:00 pm. Local enthusiastic lighthouse expert will present a talk on the significance of lighthouses on the Chesapeake Bay.

Southern Lighthouses, Smith Island, and Lighthouse History

Activity note: 44' fishing charter boat that requires climbing in and out of it for lighthouse tours. Optional walking 1 to 1.5 mile.

Breakfast: Complimentary breakfast at the Holiday Inn.

Morning: 8:00 am. Enjoy the adventure of cruising on the Chesapeake Bay while viewing lighthouses and wildlife. Board a genuine 44 foot fishing charter boat with a cabin and partially covered stern deck with a bathroom. We will head south into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay to visit Point No Point, Point Lookout and Smith Point lighthouses, complete with historical background information about each lighthouse provided by a expert. Participants are on the water for 3 ½ hours in the morning and 1 ½ hours in the afternoon. Participants must be able to climb into and out of the boat. Be prepared for spray, rain, and waves. In the event of extreme weather conditions an alternate activity will be substituted with the intent that the lighthouse boat tour will be held on a different day later in the week.

Lunch: Arrive at Smith Island for lunch served family style (an island tradition) at the Bayside Inn Restaurant. There is some time to walk around the island and tour the Smith Island Museum.

Afternoon: Depart Smith Island at 1:30. See Solomons Lump and Hooper Island Lighthouses and the expert will tell you about these lighthouses and return to museum at 4:30pm.

Dinner: 6:00 pm. Dinner will be catered in the third floor lounge of the museum.

Evening: 7:00 pm. Relax and listen to the musical performance in the Calvert Marine Museum’s Harms Gallery.

Maryland Archeological Conservation Laboratory

Activity note: Two hour walking tour at Maryland Archeological Conservation Laboratory which includes periodic seating along the tour.

Breakfast: Complimentary breakfast at the Holiday Inn.

Morning: 9:15 am. Travel by motor coach from the Holiday Inn to Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum for a two-hour expert-led tour through the Maryland Archeological Conservation Laboratory. This walking tour explores Maryland history through time from the artifacts excavated primarily from the museum grounds and other local sites. If you get tired, there are a few seats along the way.

Lunch: Noon. Picnic boxed lunches will be enjoyed at Jefferson Patterson Park overlooking the Patuxent River.

Afternoon: 1:30 pm. Return to the Holiday Inn and spend the remainder of the day exploring some local sites or just relaxing. Don’t forget to try one of our local restaurants for dinner.

Dinner: Dinner on your own. Select from a wide array of local eateries and fine dining restaurants.

Evening: Free Evening to explore beautiful Solomons Island. Walk along the boardwalk and see the Patuxent River sunset.

Cove Point Lighthouse, fossil hunting, cruise on a skipjack

Activity note: Be able to walk on uneven surface at the beach. Finish the evening by climbing aboard the Dee of St. Mary's for a 1.5 hour cruise.

Breakfast: Complimentary breakfast at the Holiday Inn.

Morning: 10:00 am. Behind the scenes tour of Estuarine Biology followed by a Curator talk and behind the scenes tour in Paleontology.

Lunch: 12 noon Lunch at Kingfisher's, a local favorite restaurant.

Afternoon: 2:00 pm. Depart for Cove Point Lighthouse for a curator lead talk and then fossil hunting on Cove Point beach. Depart Cove Point at 4:00pm. Meet by 4:20 under the Drum Point Lighthouse to board and relax on an evening cruise on the Dee of St. Mary’s. Learn about this skipjack, a sailing vessel that was used for dredging oysters.

Dinner: 6:00 pm. Enjoy the evening with a special seafood dinner at the Corbin Pavilion.

Lighthouse Art Workshop.

Breakfast: Complementary breakfast at Holiday Inn

Morning: 10:00 am. Lighthouse art workshop. Build a half model of the Drum Point Lighthouse and take this souvenir home with you. This wood side view model is nine and a half inches by eight and a half inches by one and a half inches tall.

Lunch: Noon. Enjoy final meal from our chef of Lotus Kitchen and share some of your memorable moments while wrapping up a fun-filled week. 1:00 pm. Departure and safe travels.
