Grace Chung is a board-certified forensic dentist and Chief Forensic Odontologist for the Clark County Office of the Coroner and Medical Examiner in Las Vegas, NV. She is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and served 6 years as an Army Officer in Germany and Iraq prior to dental school at the University of Maryland, where she also received her initial forensics training. She has been in private dental practice in Henderson while working forensic cases with local law enforcement agencies.

Dale Anderson View biography
Dale Anderson’s law enforcement career began in 1992 in Utah, where he remained until 1999 when he moved to Las Vegas to continue his career. Dale has worked several assignments in three decades, including Patrol, FTO, and K9, and as a Detective in specialized units focusing on violent criminals, violent encounters, and putting those criminals in prison. He was a TAC at the LVMPD Police Academy, and was most recently a Sergeant in the North Idaho Panhandle and a Certified Instructor through the FBI.

Jeffrey Lomprey has led the Fire Investigations Division for the North Las Vegas Fire Department since 2007. Commander Lomprey has achieved numerous credentials throughout his career and holds certifications as a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI), Nevada Fire Investigator III, and a Nevada Category 1 Peace Officer. He is an active member of local, state, and national professional associations including the International Association of Arson Investigators, Fraternal Order of Police, International Association of Fire Chiefs, the International Association of Firefighters and the Professional Firefighters of Nevada.

Sasha Torres View biography
Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, Sasha Torres graduated with a B.S. in forensic science and a minor in chemistry from Chaminade University of Honolulu. She worked as a crisis counselor at the Sex Abuse Treatment Center and a lab assistant at a clinical microbiology lab. She became a crime scene analyst in 2019 for the North Las Vegas Police Department. She is certified through the IAI as a crime scene investigator.

Activity note: Hotel check-in from 3:00 p.m. Note: Casino hotel is large and may involve extensive walking to meeting rooms, restaurant, and front of hotel to access transportation to classroom. Note: Casino is not smoke free.

Afternoon: Program Registration: After you check in and have your room assignment, join us at the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff, get any updated information, and confirm the time and location of the Orientation session. If you arrive late, please locate your Group Leader and let them know you have arrived. There will be signs to the meeting room. Do not hesitate to ask hotel front desk staff for directions if lost. We will be walking through areas where smoking is permitted. Orientation: The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. We will review COVID-19 protocols and will adhere to local COVID-19 guidelines and requirements throughout the program. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Forensic Dentistry, Arson Investigations & Fire Science
Las Vegas, NV

Activity note: Getting on/off a motorcoach; driving about 3 miles. Walking less than 1 mile; generally flat terrain. Motorcoach will pick up/drop off as close as possible to classroom but it may be necessary to walk a short distance across campus to board.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We’ll board our motorcoach and ride to the Student Union of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). With a forensic odonatologist, we’ll learn about the role forensic dentistry plays in the identification of victims and analysis of bite pattern injuries.

Lunch: At the UNLV Student Union Center.

Afternoon: We’ll get a glimpse into the world of a Fire Department Arson Investigation. We’ll learn about the analysis of fire-related incidences and fire science from a working North Las Vegas Fire Department Fire Investigator.

Dinner: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.

3
Forensic Anthropology & Life as an undercover detective
Las Vegas, NV

Activity note: Getting on/off a motorcoach; driving about 3 miles. Walking up to 1/2 mile; flat sidewalks. Motorcoach will pick up/drop off as close as possible to classroom but it may be necessary to walk a short distance across campus to board.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We’ll board the motorcoach and return to UNLV. A board certified Forensic anthropologist will introduce us to the real role of the forensic anthropologist in investigations. They will also discuss their main area of expertise, personal identification, and how that is possible through ever evolving techniques.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: This afternoon, a retired detective from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) will explain the basics of how detectives utilize forensic techniques in investigations and share personal experiences from on the job. More than a few myths will be busted along the way!

Dinner: On your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.

Evening: At leisure.

Blood Analysis Lecture, Fingerprinting Methods
Las Vegas, NV

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach; driving about 3 miles. Walking up to 1/2 mile; flat sidewalks. Motorcoach will pick up/drop off as close as possible to classroom but it may be necessary to walk a short distance across campus to board. Standing and walking through a museum for 1 ½ hours.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We’ll board the motorcoach and return to UNLV. With an active member of the Las Vegas Police Department, we’ll learn the basics of blood pattern analysis and DNA testing. Blood patterns and DNA left behind at a crime scene are crucial pieces of evidence that help investigators determine how a crime took place.

Lunch: At the UNLV Student Union Center.

Afternoon: At UNLV, we’ll expand our knowledge of crime scene evidence testing with a hands-on fingerprinting activity led by a North Vegas Police Department staff member. We’ll also have a presentation on modern day fingerprinting methods. Next we'll board our motorcoach for a field trip to The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. We’ll explore the exhibits and learn about notable mob criminals and organized crime through hands-on exhibits and media displays.

Dinner: At the hotel. Share favorite experiences with new Road Scholar friends during our farewell dinner.

Evening: At leisure. Prepare for check-out and departure after our final field trip in the morning.
