I took over 300 wonderful pictures of scenic views and interesting sites is the best recommendation for going on this trip. We visited very interesting sites in both Nevada and California and got a fantastic overview of the entire area. Don't worry if you aren't all that interested in the Donner Party because there is so much more to learn.

This was an excellent opportunity to learn more about the history of the American west. I enjoyed the opportunity to EXPERIENCE the American west, rather than just reading about it.

This program is for persons who like scenery (mountains & valleys), history (past & present), train travel (diesel & steam) & lots of good food.

If you love to ride trains, go on the Train Treks Across the Sierra: Sacramento to Reno. You will see beautiful scenery as well as see parts of the old West, you may only heard about in history class.

We are from the Midwest and had never visited this area before. So, having an organized program that included the railroads (which my husband likes) as well as other historical interests (which we both liked) made for an interesting time. WE also appreciated not driving, especially to Virginia City. This interesting program is a great value for your money.

Great value for the cost! I learned a lot about the California gold rush and the Donner Party. The guides, docents and lecturers were great at immersing me in the history of those days. The trip could not have been better organized and the accommodations were outstanding. The closing dinner on the Delta King Riverboat was top-notch and a great way to end a fun and informative trip.

This was the first Road Scholar trip for my wife and me. We enjoyed the trip, the group leader, all the experiences, and the entire group we were with. We are already considering other Road Scholar trips for next year.

This was my "birthday" trip. The "event" got a nice nod from everyone. Thanks to our Group Leader for my first Road Scholar Passport and sticker! Enjoyed the leader, the learning experiences and the folks in our group - diverse backgrounds, home towns, and all fun and interesting. Hope the next group and trip are as wonderful!

What an awesome tour. Fantastic hotels and food. Frank was an incredible leader, everything was planned so perfectly. We stayed very busy and everywhere we went the time spent there was perfect. A great guide really makes the tour. Anyone who wants a great tour with a great guide, this is the tour for you. Great value for money. We had a couple of folks in our group with some medical problems and Frank made sure everyone was taken good care of and seemed to be happy to do it.5 stars

I lived in Sacramento for a time and even visited Reno, so wasn't expecting too much "new"; I booked the trip to coincide with visiting relatives before and after. This was my first Road Scholar experience. This trip broadened by knowledge and appreciation for the town, the community and its history. I was pleasantly surprised at what a good time I had with the group, the itinerary, the accommodations and one cannot forget the FOOD! I have already booked my next trip!

This program is involved with an interesting, enjoyable and important period of U.S. History that is easily overlooked.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Train Tracks Across the Sierra program. The participants were diverse, the accomadations were great and the meals were delicious. I can't believe all of the educational opportunities they packed into this week and by choosing the Lake Tahoe option I was blessed with even more magnificent scenery. Heartily recommend this trip. I felt very comfortable as a single woman on this trip and got out of my comfort zone.
