This trip was more than I expected. I had never dabbled in the watercolor art before. I learned many different things about how to approach my painting in the watercolor field. The best part of the class was being in a group setting. The island was a great resource for subject matter. We were able to take our painting outside if we chose and surround ourselves in the picturesque atmosphere. During our week we were able to take up other learning experiences like bird watching, sailing and seeing where the seals hangout. This was a very exciting trip. I will go back and delve into the island life again soon.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, that hopefully I will experience again! The program was run by a trio of incredibly dedicated women. Doris was our brilliant painter/instructor, Linda our event organizer, and Ann our historian for insights and evening talks. You will learn a lot about painting and have plenty of productive time, no matter your ability level. Bring your camera too, because there's also time for beautiful pictures especially at sunrise and sunset. The island is a magical oasis, and the narrated ferry rides to/from Portsmouth NH were great for scenery too.

Great adventure on a beautiful island with wonderful instruction, beautiful vistas and cottages to paint.

Just returned from Watercolor Painting on the Isles of Shoals. This week long adventure truly changed my life. I highly recommend this trip.

Doris Rice is an amazing teacher and accomplished artist. The setting on Star Island is magical. Don't miss a sunrise or sunset, they're spectacular, and you can view both from the rocking chairs on the hotel porch. This is a program not to be missed if you aspire to learn to watercolor paint, or want to learn new techniques and improve your skills.

Painters of any level of ability will find the instruction and setting conducive to successful work.

Going to Star Island to water color is one of the best decisions I have made in several years. Karyl Hayes is a terrific teacher who gives us lots of time to paint, enough instruction, and plenty of supportive feedback. This is my second year and plan to go again next August. Far exceeded my expectations!

I could not have been happier with this delightful, stressless week. Star Island is magical; it is a beautiful, life-giving place and the center's staff are incredibly accommodating and interesting people. Our watercolor teacher, Karyl Hayes was warm, and knowledgeable; she clearly loves the freedom of plein air painting. Participants in the program ranged from absolute beginners in watercolor to folks with years of experience who sell their work in galleries. I certainly learned a lot from the teacher and fellow students; I felt affirmed in my beginning ability and it seemed that more skilled artists also learned and grew from the experience. The evening programs were informative, well delivered, engaging and fun. The food was abundant and delicious and the accommodations were comfortable and perfect in their rustic past-era way. I would definitely do this trip again.
