1
Arrival and Check-In, Welcome Dinner, Orientation

Activity note: Check-in 3:00 p.m. Nightly illumination of the Falls is from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. If you are interested in buying tickets for additional Shaw plays you can check availability at the Box Office when we arrive each morning. Prior to your arrival in Niagara you can call 1-800-511-7429 or visit shawfest.com

Dinner: Dinner at the hotel.

Evening: Orientation. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule and any changes, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. Travel and transfers will be via private motorcoach unless noted otherwise. Periods in the schedule labeled “Free Time and “At Leisure” offer opportunities to make the program more meaningful and memorable while going out to explore on your own, engaging in available activities independently, making new friends among fellow Road Scholars, or simply relaxing. The Group Leader will always be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. Continue getting to know your fellow Road Scholars, settle in, and get a good night’s rest for the day ahead. Prepare for check-out and transfer.

Shaw Backstage, Winery, Me & My Girl

Activity note: Walking a few blocks, getting on/off motorcoach. Some stairs backstage at the theatre. Assistive Listening Devices are available in the theatre lobby for a small fee, they can be used with or without a hearing aid

Breakfast: Breakfast served in hotel dining room. Participants dine at own convenience.

Morning: We transfer to Niagara-on-the-Lake for an introduction to the Shaw Festival and its history with a festival insider. Then go backstage at the Festival Theatre main theatre) with docents to get a behind the scenes peek at the inner workings of a theatre. We will have a presentation about George Bernard and a pre-show chat about the matinee presentation we will see today.

Lunch: Lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Afternoon: This afternoon we attend a matinee performance of Me & My Girl at the Shaw Festival. After the performance we will visit a local winery for a guided exploration and tasting.

Dinner: Dinner in Niagara Falls.

Evening: Free evening to explore the area.

Shaw Seminar, Butterfly Conservatory, Dancing at Lughnasa

Activity note: Walking up to 1 mile; getting on/off motorcoach. Assistive Listening Devices are available in the theatre lobby for a small fee, they can be used with or without a hearing aid

Breakfast: Breakfast served in hotel dining room. Participants dine at own convenience.

Morning: A presentation at the Shaw Festival about the production process will be followed by a pre-show presentation about the play we will see today.

Lunch: Lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Afternoon: This afternoon we attend a matinee performance of Dancing at Lughnasa at the Shaw Festival. After the play, we visit the Butterfly Conservatory for a self-guided excursion. This magical attraction features over 2,000 colourful tropical butterflies floating freely among lush, exotic blossoms and greenery. Paths wind through the rainforest setting, past a pond and waterfall and the Emergence window, where butterflies leave their pupae and prepare to take their first flight!

Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant.

Evening: At leisure.

Afternoon: Free afternoon, you may choose to attend a play at the Festival on your own.

Dinner: Farewell dinner.

Evening: This evening we attend a performance of Saint Joan at the Shaw Festival.
