Nunavut: The Land, the Inuit and the Capital City of Iqaluit

Experience and learn about traditional and contemporary Northern culture through lectures and community visits. A wide range of northern issues will be addressed including a brief introduction to Inuktitut (the language of the Inuit); implementation of the Nunavut Land Claims, a modern day treaty between Canada and one of Canada’s indigenous people; Inuit art; European contact with the Eastern Arctic; and Inuit clothing designs and fashions. Daily excursions put you in touch with the people of Nunavut, from a visit to the Nunavut Legislative Assembly; a guided walk featuring plants of the arctic environment; classroom visits with local schools; drop-in time at the visitor’s centre; to field trips to a museum and an archeological site.
