Habitat Restoration in the Upper San Pedro Ecosystem

The Nature Conservancy Ramsey Canyon Preserve protects a special area where high canyon walls and a permanent stream create a moist, cool environment unusual in the desert. Its popularity with visitors has led to the degradation of the site. Our service program will help restore the natural ecosystem that creates a sustainable and biologically diverse riparian woodland. Projects include replacing exotic vegetation with native plants, installation of protective devices to prevent deer and other animals from destroying the new plantings, removal of man-made structures, clearance of fire breaks, assisting with ongoing projects in research and monitoring and helping to restore riparian habitat along the San Pedro River.
