Appomattox: An End and a Beginning

General Robert E. Lee and General Ulysses S. Grant met on April 9, 1865 at the house of Wilmer McLean in the little village of Appomattox Court House, Va. At the conclusion of the short meeting terms had been arranged that set the stage for Reconstruction and the rise of regional differences that persist today. Through lecture, anecdotes and expert-led exploration of the Appomattox site learn the real significance of the Confederate surrender in 1865.
