Rails, Trails, and Terrestrials of the West Virginia Highlands
Share the excitement of hearing a steam whistle and feeling the pulsing of pistons as you relive an era where steam-driven locomotives were an essential part of everyday life. Then explore the world's largest steerable telescope, and discover why scientists from around the world come here to study astronomical objects from planets to quasars. Finish the week as you move to Snowshoe Mountain where you venture into the 10,000 acres of backcountry to discover scenic overlooks and a ghost town, climb a fire tower, and experience the flora and fauna native to the Allegheny Mountains. Cap off the week of adventures with a lively cookout and hoedown under a star-filled sky. Program includes two excursion train rides and a cross-country bike ride.
