Service: Artifact Preparation and Curation

A thousand years ago, the Ancestral Puebloan peoples ("cliff-dwellers") left their dwellings in the canyons and mesas of southwest Colorado. Archaeologists have searched these ruins for clues to understanding their culture. Working at the Anasazi Heritage Center, headquarters for Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, and the McElmo Canyon Research Institute, assist with the curation of ancient artifacts gathered from these sites and learn to recognize and categorize artifacts. Spend a day at Mesa Verde National Park with your archaeologist guide to exercise your new insights.
