In one of America’s top three birding hot spots, a dazzling array of birding adventures awaits you. Take extensive field trips to some of the best birding sites in south Texas including the Santa Ana Refuge. The Rio Grande Valley area is home to many tropical bird species found nowhere else in the United States. Learn how to observe and identify birds by distinctive field marks, behavior, flight patterns. Prepare with a review of the basics: using binoculars, spotting scopes, birding techniques, guides, and “etiquette.” Likely sightings include Chachalacas, Green Jays, Kiskadees, Golden-fronted Woodpecker, and Altamira Orioles. Other target species are the Blue mockingbird, Red-billed Pigeon, Olive sparrow, Parrots, Parakeets and tiny White-collared Seedeater. You’ll also have opportunities to learn about the natural history o South Texas and the Rio Grande valley by an expert naturalist.
