Travel to China during the Qing Dynasty (1611-1902) at the renowned Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. See the Yin Yu Tang, a fascinating, re-constructed Chinese house where the same family lived for eight generations. Learn about Salem's China Trade and the Opium Wars, and visit the museum's famous collections of art, sculpture, and antiques brought home to Salem by the hardy sea captains of the 18th and 19th centuries. Dr. Zachary Abuza of Simmons College, an expert on the Far East, shares with us his insight into today's complicated relations between China and the U.S., the status of terrorism in Asia, and the impact on the United States. Walk through Salem's colonial streets and learn about her splendid maritime history.

Program in association with New England Discoveries.
