Learn how to get the best pictures in - and out - of your new digital camera. In scenic Sagamore, a professional photographer teaches you how to harness technology to capture photos of unimaginable quality. Hands-on classes review the functions of digital cameras, basic photography skills and the new realities of digital processing. Master your digital camera's settings and combine basic skills such as composition and point of view to improve your photos. Discover how to easily transfer digital files onto your computer and optimize, print or e-mail them. Acres upon acres of Adirondack wilderness inspire creative expression, while guided tours of Sagamore's National Historic Landmark buildings offer unique architectural and structural shots.

Participants must bring digital camera with owner's manual and memory device for camera. Basic computer skills helpful but not required. Those interested in traditional photography are invited to bring non-digital equipment.

Road Scholar Instructors

Burdette Parks

A popular Road Scholar teacher at Sagamore, Burdette Parks is a multi-talented artist. He is a painter, a photographer, and an actor with a one-man show on Benjamin Franklin. Fully competent in digital and electronic media, Burdette never loses his artistry in the midst of technology. Much of his teaching is about seeing a subject — the transfer to electronics is secondary to the artistry of the photograph. He reminds students it is not the camera, or the computer, it is the photographer.
