The city of Corning is both an industrial icon and an artistic haven. Come downtown with us to learn about the fascinating history of glass manufacture and how a company town, over a period of 150 years, can produce high art and community pride through historic preservation, architectural revitalization, the establishment of art museums, and the patronage of artists' working studios. In addition to field trips to the Rockwell Museum of Western Art and the Corning Museum of Glass, study the history of Steuben Glass and how Corning became the national model for the "Main Street" historic commercial district. Make a fused glass ornament and holiday gifts from materials reminiscent of the history of the Crystal City.
Field trips and gallery visits include standing up to one hour at a time. Participants with questions about activity level may contact the site.
Program in association with Watson Homestead Conference and Retreat Center.
