The breathtaking vistas of the High Sierra inspired Ansel Adams to create some of photography’s most iconic images. Explore these striking landscapes to create your own masterpieces with the guidance and support of one of Adams’ apprentices, photographer and educator Mark Citret. From the towering walls of the Yosemite Valley to sparkling Lake Tahoe to the haunting tufas of Mono Lake, Mark teaches you the art and technique of landscape photography through engaging lectures and hands-on workshops. Study fundamental and advanced photographic techniques, as you discuss both practical and philosophical aspects of fieldwork. Shoot your own images in field sessions at Yosemite National Park, Virginia City, Lake Tahoe and Mono Lake, where a local naturalist leads a session on Mono’s unique geology and ecology. Finally, experience firsthand the work of iconic black-and-white photographer Ansel Adams at a private viewing of his original prints conducted by the staff of the Ansel Adams Gallery.

Walking up to two miles at a time over three hours on paved and unpaved terrain and on maintained gravel and dirt paths. Some stairs are unavoidable on field trips. Transportation is mainly by ultramodern motor coach with some use of public transportation. This program is for all levels of photographers. Small group size and critique sessions ensure personalized instruction for participants.
