Lace up your boots and discover a section of the Appalachian Trail in the Pocono Mountains - a stretch prized for its outstanding views. Pass through the picturesque Delaware Water Gap, then climb up to and follow long, rocky ridges only a few thousand feet above sea level. Participants will hone their hiking skills on hikes of different lengths, culminating in three 3 to 6 hour hikes on the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Natural history slide lectures come to life through the keen eye of a naturalist guide as you examine local flora and fauna. Learn trail orientation, hiking safety and the history and preservation of a national treasure.

Daily hikes vary from 3-8 miles. Small groups formed according to skill. Elevation gains of up to 1000 feet. Participants must be able to carry a day pack.

Program in association with the Shawnee Institute.
