Baja California is an idyllic coastal paradise in which to study aquatic animals and human activity while basking in stunning natural beauty. The Sea of Cortez’ islands, deep ocean trenches and up-welling currents that carry nutrients to the surface make it one of the world's richest bodies of water, drawing sea life of all kinds into the scope of your in-depth study. Observe the area's marine biology, distinctive human culture, desert flora and fishing industry, and enhance your scientific exploration by snorkeling with sea lions, kayaking, swimming and boating to see gray whales.

In San Jose del Cabo, on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, a city tour takes you to Iglesia San Jose, Cactimundo Botanical Garden and Estero de San Jose. Attend the first segment of an in-depth, five-part lecture series on the rich marine biology of Baja California, with additional segments presented throughout the week. Explore the uninhabited Isla Espiritu Santo, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Sea of Cortez, and relax on Tecolote Beach. A guided city tour of La Paz includes the Anthropology Museum and visits to ceramics and weavers workshops to see local craftspeople at work. Discuss the culture of Baja California Sur and embark on a full-day boat excursion to observe Baja’s gray whales. Go swimming at Los Planes beach and take a walk in the area to observe local flora and fauna. Conclude with a visit to the handicraft shops, art galleries and colonial buildings of colorful Todos Santos on the Pacific Coast.
