This service program allows you to help the school children and teaching staff in Navajo Reservation schools. Participants of all backgrounds are welcome to these rural schools where we have been providing service since 1998. The only requirement is a flexible and adaptable nature. Many students live without basic amenities--their families burn wood, haul water and use generators. Explore the rewards of helping students, interacting with parents, and working alongside teachers. Comments include "received much more than I gave" at week's end. Many participants form long-term bonds and return to volunteer again and again. Field trip to a traditional Navajo Hogan, and evening programs on Navajo culture provide additional insight.
Program weeks are split among various Navajo Nation Schools in Cameron and Tuba City. Cameron school: Gray Mountain Elementary School (K-6). Tuba City schools: Eagle's Nest Intermediate School (Grades 4-6); Tuba City Primary School (Grades K-3); and Tuba City Boarding School (Grades 7-8). Tuba City schools are 26 miles from Cameron, daily shuttle provided. Portions of the costs of this program may qualify as tax-deductible. Please see the Registration page for more information.

Cameron
Named after Ralph Cameron, a U.S. senator who owned several copper mines, the town sits 80 miles south of Page in the Painted Desert and is on the Navajo Indian Reservation. To reach his mines, the senator created the Bright Angel Trail in 1899, which has since become one of the most popular hiking trails on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
