Hilton Head Island is steeped in golf history and renowned the world over for its spectacular ocean-side courses. Work on your golf game and benefit from small-group instruction during morning sessions with a PGA professional who is an expert teacher. Then in the afternoon enjoy the opportunity to play some of Hilton Head’s finest courses, honing your skills and having fun with your fellow Road Scholar golfers.

  Start of Program:
Check in at the Omni Oceanfront Resort between 4:00 and 5:00 pm. Program registration will be held in the hotels conference center. The evening meal and orientation will follow. You will be staying at Omni Oceanfront Resort that night.
  End of Program:
Check out by 11:00 AM. You will be staying at Omni Oceanfront Resort the night before.

The Participant Information Form is required. The only required document is a photo ID such as a driver's license.

Parking information will be included in the confirmation packet. The resort will shuttle participants to/from the housing facility to the golf center.

Driving Directions
  From Interstate 95 Driving Direction from North or South take I-95 to Exit #8. Take Hwy 278 East for 25 miles towards Hilton Head Island. After crossing the Island bridge, continue on Business 278 to Palmetto Dunes, which is located on the left hand side 8 miles from the Island bridge. Make a left hand turn at traffic light into Palmetto Dunes, and after one mile you will arrive at a guard gate. State that you are a guest of the Omni Oceanfront Resort and obtain a pass and continue. The Resort is located on the left side. No motorcycles permitted.
Elevation Note: Hilton Head is just above sea level.

Equipment Requirements: Golf clubs, golf balls, golf tees and any comfort items such as hats, bug spray, sunscreen, etc. you consider necessary.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Arrival and Check-in / Program Registration / Welcome Dinner / Orientation
(Sunday, February 8)
   
 Afternoon: Hotel Check-in: Available from 4:00 p.m.

Program Registration: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last-minute changes, and other important information. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in.
 Dinner: In our private dining room at the Omni Oceanfront Resort, we’ll enjoy a plated three-course dinner including salad, entrée, and dessert, plus coffee, tea, and water; other beverages available for purchase.
 Evening: Orientation: The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the program theme, the up-to-date daily schedule and any changes, discuss safety guidelines, emergency procedures, roles and responsibilities, and answer any questions you may have.

Use of vouchers for breakfasts at the HH Prime restaurant will also be discussed during orientation; vouchers are included in your check in packet.

Day 2: Group and Individual Golf Instruction / Play 18-Holes of Golf / Hilton Head’s Natural and Human History
(Monday, February 9)

Note: Golf carts provided for afternoon play.



   
 Breakfast: At the resort’s HH Prime restaurant, present your voucher for a buffet offering eggs and made-to-order omelettes, breakfast meats, potatoes, pancakes, waffles, or French Toast, grits and hot and cold cereals, yogurt, granola, fruit, bagels, muffins, breads, pastries (including gluten-free), plus juices, milk, coffee, tea, water.
 Morning: We’ll meet our instructors at the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Golf Resort for group instruction and opportunities for individual lessons in putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing. These are fundamentals important to players of all skill levels. The instructors have over 50 years of PGA-certified experience teaching groups with mixed skill levels, and are expert at tailoring their instruction to each individual.
 Lunch: At Big Jim's, enjoy a selection of soup, salad and sandwiches, plus coffee, tea, water. Additional beverages are available for purchase.
 Afternoon: We’ll play our first afternoon of 18 holes of golf. The Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes is the first of the resort’s three different courses we will play. It’s set on a coastal island, with spectacular views in all directions. The course also boasts unique challenges for golfers of all skill levels, designed by the resort’s golf architects.
 Dinner: At the resort.
 Evening: A local expert will join us for a presentation about Hilton Head Island’s natural and human history. The island’s archaeological history can be traced back to Native American inhabitants 4,000 years ago. We’ll also learn about Hilton Head’s more recent past including the plantation era, Civil War, and modern development into a world-class resort destination that is also home to 30,000 full time residents.

Day 3: Group and Individual Golf Instruction / Play 18 Holes of Golf / Loggerhead Sea Turtles
(Tuesday, February 10)

Note: Golf carts provided for afternoon play.



   
 Breakfast: At the resort.
 Morning: We’ll meet with our instructors at Palmetto Dunes for more group instruction on putting, chipping, pitching, sand, and full swing. Because some of us will progress more quickly than others, the instructor will keep pace with the unique needs of each individual student.
 Lunch: At Big Jim's.
 Afternoon: We’ll play our second 18 holes of golf at either the George Fazio or Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes.
 Dinner: At the resort.
 Evening: A local naturalist will join us to share fascinating real-life stories of South Carolina’s Loggerhead Sea Turtles that nest on the beaches of Hilton Head Island between May and August. Learn how adult females nest every two to four years, coming ashore 4 and 6 times per season to lay eggs. Loggerheads typically nest at night, crawling to a dry part of the beach where females dig a nest cavity with their rear flippers and lay an average of 120 eggs. Once her eggs have been laid, the female throws sand on the nest to hide it from predators, and slowly returns to the ocean.

Day 4: Group and Individual Golf Instruction / Free Afternoon and Evening
(Wednesday, February 11)
   
 Breakfast: At the resort.
 Morning: This morning’s golf instruction will focus on stretching exercises and the mental part of the game. We’ll also review putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing before taking on trouble shots such as side hill lies, trajectory control, out of the bushes, long sand shots, shooting off hard pan and cart paths, and over the water. Our instructor will also demonstrate how to use a yardage book.
 Lunch: At Big Jim's.
 Afternoon: Free afternoon: Take this opportunity for personal independent exploration to see and do what interests you most. Please refer to the list of Free Time Opportunities. The Group leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions.
 Dinner: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions.
 Evening: At leisure. You might enjoy the many entertainment possibilities Hilton Head has to offer, or simply relax at the resort with fellow participants.

Day 5: Group and Individual Golf Instruction / Play 18-Holes of Golf / Farewell Reception and Road Scholar 40th Anniversary Celebration
(Thursday, February 12)

 Breakfast: At the resort.
 Morning: Our final morning golf instruction will begin with the stretching, exercises and “mental part of the game” topics covered during Day 3. Our golf pros will then review and build on those aspects of the game that will be most helpful to participants based on the skills and needs of each individual.
 Lunch: At Big Jim's.
 Afternoon: We’ll play our third and final 18 holes of golf at either the George Fazio or Arthur Hills Course to complete our experience of each of the resort’s three different courses.
 Dinner: To start our final evening together as a group, we’ll gather in our private banquet room at the resort for a social hour including light hors d'oeuvres, then have dinner.
 Evening: Road Scholar 40th Anniversary Celebration. Enjoy Anniversary Cake to celebrate 40 years of Road Scholar learning adventures, and reminisce about your own experiences. Our Group Leader will reflect on Road Scholar’s past four decades, including the changes seen and advances made.

Day 6: ap Up Session / Program Concludes
